15,000 salute the tricolour at Alva's College

Moodbidri, August 15: Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri observed Independence Day on Monday, August 15 in a special and unique manner.

Nearly 15,000 people, including 14,500 students of various educational institutions run by the Foundation and 500 staff members took part in the celebration at one location in Moodbidri on the Foundation's educational institution campus near here and honoured the tricolour.

Uniform clad students saluted the National flag with discipline pouring in from all sides reflecting the true spirit of the youth providing a spectacular view.

MAHE Former Vice Chancellor Dr B M Hegde was the chief guest. Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of the Foundation was present.

Two arrested in Kundapur for threatening to kill ASHA workers

Kundapur, Apr 28: The local police have arrested two people for threatening and preventing an Associated Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers from discharging their duties during the lockdown.

Police said on Tuesday that the arrested are Sandeep Mesta and Mahesh Kharvi.

According to official sources, the health officials had put Sandeep under quarantine for 28 days.

However, he was seen wandering in the streets and ASHA worker C Laxmi warned him to stay indoors.

Irked by the warning Sandeep, along with his friend Mahesh Kharvi waylaid her and threatened to kill for objecting his movement.

Bantwal: 2 teenagers killed in head-on collision of two-wheelers

Bantwal, Jan 15: Two people died in a head-on collision between two two-wheelers at Mani-Mysuru Highway in Bantwal last night, police said on Wednesday.

Police said that Parikshit (19) and Padmanabha Gowda (28) were heading towards Mane while Mohammed Ajmal (19) on his activa was on his way towards Kodaje when they collided head-on.

All the victims were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment where two of them breathed its last after not responding to the treatment.

Parikshit and Ajmal lost their lives while Gowda suffered critical injuries, the police said.

In another road accident reported from Kodangayi near Radukatte in Vittla, seven people including women and children sustained injuries when a Maruti Omni and another vehicle collided here on Tuesday evening.

Congress women's wing protests against price of onion, LPG cylinders

Shivamogga, Jan 11: Members of Karnataka Congress women's wing staged a protest in Shivamogga on Friday against the rise in onion prices and domestic LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders.

As a mark of protest, the demonstrators wore garlands made of onions, drew rangoli on the road and cooked food with firewood. The protestors also carried posters comparing the price of cylinders in Congress and BJP-led government in the Centre.

The price of non-subsidised LPG was hiked by Rs 19 per cylinder from January 1, 2020.
