Mangaloreans can now just dial to lodge a police complaint

Mangalore, August 18: If you are a resident of Mangalore and need to lodge an immediate complaint, you need not to visit police station as the City Police Commissionerate has introduced a new 'Interactive Voice Recording System' which would respond to grievances.

IVRS will help complainants to lodge a complaint from their homes. A complainant has to do is call 2222212 and tell their complaints.

Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh opines that the new system will save a lot of time for the complainants. As soon as a complaint is received, the police will register it and update the complainant about the action taken by the police department.

Person calling the number can choose either Kannada or English as the language for communication. IVRS will then take him through the procedure to register a complaint.

The person has to record his name, postal address, contact number and e-mail id after which the complainant has to record his grievance in a minute and end the conversation with #.

The system will also generate a complaint number which will help the complainant for follow up purposes.

A person has been assigned to listen to grievances and put the complaint in writing. The audio recording and related complaint will be sent to the police commissioner who will forward them to police stations or concerned police officers.

All the materials related to the grievance will be stored in a separate server. The police commissioner has promised to physically maintain a record of complaints.

The IVRS will be restricted to calls made in Mangalore. They are also discussing on having a toll free number for IVRS. “It will depend on how successful IVRS turns out”, says Mr Singh.

Shivamogga, Feb 4: Students of a government primary school which is built especially for the children of manual scavengers, have been facing tough times during classes as the filthy drainage passing through the school premises excrete human excreta and sludge.

The drainage passes through GSPL Scavenger's Colony School in Shivamogga city, located behind the state road transport corporation's bus stand (KSRTC).

According to the locals here, students studying in this school often fall sick due to the waste flowing from the drainage.

Penchelayya, the father of a child who studies in the same school said, "Human excreta floats in the drainage as it is connected to two toilets. The school stinks and students often fall sick due to the drainage."

The students studying here are unable to bear the foul smell emanating from the drainage which flows at the school's premises.

He added that waste from private bus stands is dumped in this drainage which ultimately flows here creating an extremely unhygienic environment for the people living here and students studying in this school.

He further claimed that the government is not ready to listen to their grievances.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of a youth and a child, who died due to a landslide at Gurupura in Mangaluru.

"The Chief Minister announces Rs 5 lakh each compensation to Safwan (17) and Shehla (10) who died due to landslide at Gurupura, Mangaluru. Houses will also be built for people who lost houses at Bodanthilla, Dakshina Kannada," an official said.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.
The State Disaster Management Authority said that 57 people and 262 animals lost their lives in flood, rainfall and lightning-related incidents in Karnataka between April 1, 2020, and July 5, 2020.
