BJP Yuva Morcha takes out torch light rally supporting Hazare

Mangalore, August 18: Dakshina Kannada District unit of BJP Yuva Morcha on Friday evening took out a torch light procession in the city supporting Anna Hazare's campaign against corruption.

Dozens of Morcha activists took part in the rally, which commenced in front of the BJP Office in Kodialbail and culminated at Jyothi Circle.

Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar kateel, Mangalore South MLA N Yogish Bhat, Shrikar Prabhu, Adv Raghavendra Rao were among those who participated in the rally.

The torch rally comes following the decision of ruling party of Karnataka to launch a state-wide agitation against the Union Government demanding a strong Jan Lokpal Bill to eradicate corruption.

As part of BJP's statewide agitation, the Mahila Morcha activists are expected to take out rallies across the state on Saturday.

C T Ravi, General Secretary of BJP has informed that the party men would stage dharna in all the 224 assembly constituencies in the state on August 22.

Various allied organisations of the party including IT Cell, Farmers wing and others will also hold agitations supporting Mr. Hazare, he informed.

Kalaburagi, Apr 17: Hundreds of people participated in the Siddhalingeswara temple chariot festival in Chitapur village on Thursday, violating the lockdown orders.

"Today at 6.30 am, around 100-150 people had come near Siddalingeshwara temple for about 20 mintues and took part in chariot pulling procession," Superintendent of Police Lada Martin said.

A case has been registered against 20 people and further investigation is going to ascertain more details related to the religious gathering.
Meanwhile, a sub-inspector has been suspended.

Thirty-six cases of coronavirus were reported in Karnataka on Thursday, taking the state's tally to 315.

Bengaluru, Jun 8: The Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday announced that former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

"Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections at the request of our party legislators, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and many other leaders of the country. Tomorrow, he will be filing nomination for the election. Thanks to the former PM for agreeing to everyone's consensus," JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy said.

The elections to fill the vacant 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states are scheduled to be held on June 19.

Four Rajya Sabha seats are up for grabs in the state, Congress has already nominated senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge as its candidate.

The ruling BJP will field candidates for two seats.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: About 20,000 quintal boiled rice has been distributed among the ration card holders through Public Distribution System, District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said here on Saturday.

As people in the district prefer boiled rice over white rice, the government has given approval for distributing boiled rice. From next month, only boiled rice will be distributed in the district at fair price shops.

In the last two days, rice has been distributed among 61,302 cardholders in the district.
