Udupi, August 22: The 'Mosaru Kudike Utsava' or Srikrishna Leelothsava, which is also called 'Vitla Pindi', depicting the celebration to mark the birth of lord Krishna and his childhood activities, was celebrated with all pomp and gaiety, in the temple city here on Monday.

Muddu Krishna competitions under the banner of Paryaya Sri Shiroor Mutt and also in surrounding places by several social and cultural organisations, Hulivesha Kunitha competition, breaking the pot, climbing the slippery areca tree etc were held.

Paryaya Shiroor Mutt pontiff Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji boarded the special chariot, showcasing the typical Vitla Pindi of Udupi, with the`Mruthhika Moorthi', the clay idol of lord Krishna in his hands. Poojas and `arghya' had been offered to the Mruthika Murthy on Sunday midnight.

Devotees pulled the chariot around Rathabeedi with several cultural teams including hulivesha kunitha, music bands, dollu kunitha etc adding colour to the celebration. After a full circle in Car Street, Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji immersed the clay idol of lord Krishna in the Madhwa Sarowar of Srikrishna Temple.

Swamijies distributed 'laddu' and 'chakkuli', the tipical 'prasadam' of Srikrishnashtami to the thousands of devotees gathered infront of the temple.

Live performance by renowned drummer A. Sivamani around the Car Street was the special attraction. Shivamnani has been presenting live show before the huge gathering from 6 pm till night, at the vehicle parking area of Srikrishna Temple.

As the one of the three slippery areca pole cut in two, four persons climbing the pole in a competition fell down and injured severely.
