Overtake bid results in serial accident

Mangalore, August 23: In a filmy-style serial accident involving four speedy vehicles on the Mangalore-Suratkal road, at least six persons including a bus driver were injured.

The accident occurred near the office of Aravind Motors Pvt Ltd near Kulur at around 9:00 am when a passenger bus plying form State Bank Bus Terminus to Kunjattabail, in a bid to over-take a series of vehicles hit an auto-rickshaw, which in turn hit a Maruti Zen car.

After hitting the auto-rickshaw the bus driver lost control over his vehicle and again hit a speedy 407 tempo.

All four vehicles were damaged in the accident. The bus driver Rakshit (27), a resident of Kunjattabai has been admitted to a private hospital in the city.

A case has been registered at Kavoor police station


Two killed

In two separate cases of fatal road accidents reported from Puttur traffic police station two persons including a pedestrian were died on Monday.

Dinesh Rai, pedestrian died on spot when a mini-lorry collided against him at Haradi Bannur village in Puttur taluk.

Lokayya Naik driving a motorcycle was killed and Kanthappa Naik, pillion rider injured when a pick-up van collided against motorcycle they were travelling in at Shivagiri Nagar of Karaya village in Belthangady taluk.

Udupi, Jan 5: The district administration has identified 460 beneficiaries who will be allotted flats at Herga under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, informed MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday he said the Udupi Municipal Council will construct the apartments in the 8.22 acres of land earmarked for the purpose at Herga. The flats will be ready before April 2021.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: A 50-year old coronavirus patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a hospital building here on Monday, police said.

The patient jumped from the trauma ward of the Victoria Hospital, a senior police official said.

According to hospital sources, the man, who was admitted with acute respiratory problem on Friday, was also suffering from kidney problems.

This morning, he jumped off the fifth floor of the building, they said.

Further investigations are on, police said.

Bengaluru, Jun 22: The opening of Schools in the state, is unlikely before Dasara festival, as a majority of the parents are averse to send their children due to the COVID-19 scare.

According to official sources, in the State education department, a majority of parents, who were asked to give their opinion on re-opening of schools in the state, have reportedly favoured continuing the closing of schools till September.

The primary and Secondary education department had received feedback from various stakeholders including educational institutions, parents and Teachers, clocking high towards not opening the schools for the 2020-21 academic year till Dasara days.
