Meeting gives go-ahead for Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Udupi, August 28: Past President of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangalore, Jacob Crasta inaugurated the Christian Business Meet organized by the Udupi district unit of International Federation of Karnataka Christians Associations, at the Madhavakrishna Auditorium of Kediyoor Hotel, here on Sunday.

The meet resolved to form a Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for Udupi District. It aims to promote fellowship and brotherhood among members, to liaison between the members and the government, quasi-government and other agencies in matters of common interest. It shall formulate ways, including forums to help to resolve entrepreneurial disputes and differences between individuals and entities, the meet resolved.

In his address Udupi District Builders' Association President Jerry Vincent Dias expressed concern over decrease in the number of Christians worldwide. ``This has

resulted in shortage of Fathers and nuns and ultimately to the closure of many of the churches. He advised the Christians to have bigger families, work abroad, earn there and return to India to start their own business.

Proprietor of Sunray Solar Systems, Mangalore, Ronald I Gomes said that Christians had been blamed for failing to avail most of the government facilities.

State Convener of IFKCA Dennis D'Silva, Managing Director of Immanuel Raymond Fernandez and others were present. President of Udupi District unit of IFKCA Luis Lobo welcomed. Secretary Nery Cornelio proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Vincent Alva compered the programme.

57-yr-old woman dies protesting against CAA, NRC at Park Circus

Kolkata, Feb 2: A protester at Park Circus, known as Shaheen Bagh of Kolkata, died last night after she fell ill during her agitation against CAA, NRC and NPR.

The woman has been identified as Sameeda Khatun (57) who was a resident of Entally area of the city. According to protesters, Khatun who was asthmatic patient died after suffering a cardiac arrest. She is survived by husband and eight children.

Around 250 women from Kolkata have been holding a peaceful sit-in at Park Circus Maidan since January 7 to protest against CAA, NRC and NPR and demanding the withdrawal of the new citizenship law.

Research Scholar at Rabindra Bharati University, Nousheen Baba Khan who has been spearheading the Park Circus protest since the beginning, told the newspaper, “Sameeda Khatun was a regular face at the protest and she was not well as she had asthma.

Last evening she came to me complaining that she is having trouble in breathing. We immediately took her to Chittaranjan Hospital where doctors said she had suffered a cardiac arrest. We later took her to Islamia Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” said Khan.

Two of a family killed as tanker rams into car near Uppinangady

Uppinangady, Feb 9: Two members of a family were killed after the car collided with a tanker on the NH 75 at Bedrody near Uppinangady last night.

Police said on Sunday that the deceased have been identified as Jainy Saji (30) and her elder brother Jeeson (40).

Jainy and Jeeson were going to Uppinangady when a tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into their car.

Karnataka | Shepherd tests Covid-19 positive; 43 sheep to be tested

Tumakuru, Jun 30: As many as 43 sheep were quarantined after a shepherd tested positive for novel coronavirus at Godekere Gollarahatti in Tumakuru district.

J C Madhuswamy, district in-charge minister, has instructed the district administration and the Animal Husbandry department to subject the sheep to Covid-19 tests.

The move followed after five sheep found dead in mysterious circumstances at the village. All 43 sheep of the infected person have been isolated from the herd and kept at a place in Jakkanahalli.

"There is no evidence that the sheep can contract Covid-19 and transmit the virus to the people. But since the virus has many strains and keep changing its genetic make-up, draw throat swab samples of the sheep and send the same to Covid-19 lab. Till the report comes, keep the livestock in isolation," Madhuswamy told the officials.
