Whale carcass washes up at Suratkal beach

Suratkal, August 30: A decaying carcass of a whale was washed up on Suratkal beach on Monday.

The whale was 12 feet in length with its dismembered head lying a few feet away from the carcass.

The dead whale attracted numerous onlookers.

The whale is said to have been dead 15 days ago before being washed over to the shore near Light House.

Local fishermen said that the whale might have perished after being injured either by fishermen's nets or due to injuries inflicted from moving close to a boat.

Revathi Putran, Member of the Mnagalore City Corporation said that the giant carcass would be buried on Tuesday. The carcass will be cut into pieces before being buried with salt water at the shore.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: District administration in Kalaburagi, where the first death in India due to COVID-19 was reported, has identified over 25 people, who come close to the deceased and quarantined for observation, Minister for Health B Sreeramulu said on Friday.

In reply to a debate on the issue during Zero Hour of the Legislative Assembly, the Health Minister said that two members of the victim’s family and 23 others are suspected of COVID-19.

Mr. Sreeramulu said all the schools of the district have been as a preventive measure to contain the deadly virus.

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Seven new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka since Saturday 5 pm to 2 pm on Sunday.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 83, out of which five have been cured/discharged and three have lost their lives, according to the Karnataka Health Department.

A total of 979 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.
