EMIs of housing loans could be extended, says banker

Mangalore, September 3: “People who cannot repay the home loan within the time frame may have their repayment time extended,” said Bank Chairman and Managing Director H S Upendra Kamath.

Owing to the inflationary trends, the banks have been forced to increase the interest rates. This has resulted in the increased Every Month Installment (EMI) amount. Those who fail to pay the increased amount will have their EMI numbers increased, Mr. Kamath said.

He was delivering a lecture on “Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and General Banking issues” at KCCI hall here on Friday.

Banks have been advised to take care of the customers, be it Small Medium Enterprises (SME) or home loan borrowers, he said. He however added that the restructuring of loan repayment can take place only if the bank finds the SMEs promising.

Dismissing the general perception that bankers will be happy with the hike in interest rates, Mr. Kamath sympathized with small and medium enterprises that “don't have the capacity to bear the hike or pass it on to the consumers”.

“Even salaried classes who have taken home loans may face this economic stress,” he observed.

KCCI president Latha R. Kini, vice-president Mohammed Ameen, other office-bearers including Ganesh Bhat, Rammohan Pai Maroli and Sudhir Ghate were present.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Former Karnataka Health minister and senior Congress leader Dr H C Mahadevappa on Saturday urged the state government to chalk out a comprehensive plan to conduct tests among the vulnerable sections in the society to impede the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Mahadevappa, felt that only restricting people to remain indoors will not suffice to tackle the spread of the contagious disease he said that "There needs to step up testing the people especially belonging to the vulnerable sections of the society".

Maintaining that the COVID-19 disease, which has progressed itself as a pandemic, across the globe, former Health Minister said that "there is also a need to fight the menace with multiple dimension, as it has potential to cause damage not only the social life of the people but also their livelihood".

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should issue strict orders to the police in Delhi to act in nation's interest and control the ongoing violence.

"Distressing scenes in Delhi!! #DelhiBurning as a result of ulterior motives of divisive forces within our Country. Police have completely failed in their responsibility. People have to remain calm and promote peace in the area for their own benefit," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"Seven people dead and hundreds are injured, Amit Shah should issue strict orders to police to act in nation's interest and not in the interest of few people. As Gandhiji said, An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Peace and harmony should be our moto," he added.
Siddaramaiah further stated that the "triggering point of the #DelhiViolence seems to be the inciting speech of BJP leader Kapil Mishra."

"This actually qualifies for a sedition case as it was aimed at disturbing national peace and security. Police have to arrest him and bring normalcy in Delhi," he wrote.

Siddaramaiah has further asked Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to be careful "before situation goes out of hand."

"Delhi riots are in front of eyes. There will be tough situation here in state as well if those loose tongue leaders in BJP are not stopped in the state," he wrote.
As many as 18 people have lost their lives and around 190 are injured in the violence that has been raging in parts of North-East Delhi from Monday.

Bengaluru, Jul 19: A man protested in front of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's residence on Saturday alleging lack of medical care claimed the life of his one-month-old infant girl, police said on Saturday.

Venkatesh sat with the baby's photograph in front of the Chief Minister's house, saying the girl developed health issues on July 11 and he rushed her to a hospital, but it turned him away, the police said.

He said he had approached about a dozen hospitals and all of them refused to provide the baby any medical care. Eventually, the baby died.

This forced Venkatesh to hold a protest to draw the Chief Minister's attention to the issue, the police said.

The demonstration drew public attention and a few people joined him in the protest, they said.
