SDM Law College students celebrate a colourful Onam

Mangalore, September 3: It was indeed a day of joy for the students of city based Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, as they spent the whole day in Onam celebration.

The day started off with an intricately decorated Pookalam or floral arrangement, followed by a series of cultural programmes.

The enthusiastic spirit of the students bound them in a bond of unity while celebrating this harvest festival. A great show put up by the students built an atmosphere of utmost joy and happiness.

N K Balakrishnan, the Kerala High Court judge, who was special guest of the occasion, praised the effort and enthusiasm of Law students in conserving the rich tradition of the country.

Speaking about the significance of the festival, he said that it was one of the most important secular festivals of the country, and hence people from different communities and religion take part in it.

Lekshmi M Kumaran, DGM Corporate Communications MRPL, Anwar Manippady, the Chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, Dr B K Ravindra, the Principal of the college, were the chief guests.

Dr P D Sebastian, the President of the Onam Organizing Committee; Sibi M P, Convener were present among others.

Various competitions for the students were also held on the occasion.

Bengaluru, April 3: One new positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the state on Friday.

The patient is a 75-year-old man from Bagalkot and has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bagalkot, the State government said.

"Till date, 125 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state, this includes three deaths and 11 discharges," it added.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2301 in India on Friday, including 156 cured/discharged, 56 deaths and 1 migrated, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Working President Eshwara Khandre on Thursday suggested to the State government to utilize the infrastructure available at the International Exhibition Centre on the outskirts of the City on Tumakuru Road near Nelamangala, about 15 km from here, for quarantine and treatment of people affected with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

In a statement here today, Mr Khandre said that the dreaded disease is spreading like wildfire and according to experts the figure may touch one Lakh in the State. 

Hence there is necessary to have adequate infrastructure found well in advance and utlise if necessity arises. The Center is built on a 57-acre land and there are sufficient space available and since it is on the outskirts of the city there is no threat of the virus spreading to the Bengaluru City.

Mysuru, Feb 26: Twenty-nine students of the Government Primary School fell sick after consuming milk supplied at the school on Wednesday morning at Kiranguru village, in Hanagodu hobli, in the hunsur taluk in the district.

Police said the students were immediately rushed to the primary health centre in Hanagodu and provided first aid.

Tahsildar and Police personnel visited the health centre and inquired about the health of the students. "All the students are responding to the treatment," sources said.
