MLC urges teachers not to observe black day on Sep 5

Mangalore, September 4: In the backdrop of the High School teachers and the Pre University lecturers contemplating to observe September 5 (Teachers' Day) as the black day, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik who is also the State Organising Secretary of Karnataka Secondary Teachers' Association has requested them to step back from their decision.

Speaking to the media persons at BJP office on Saturday, Karnik said that the State government is very much concerned about the demands of the teachers and steps will be taken to ensure their demands.

“The demand of the high school and PU teachers to revise the wages is understandable and it is for the same reason that the State government is contemplating to introduce 'Academic Grade Pay' which would help in overthrowing the wage discrimination. Teachers' Day being an auspicious Day, should not be observed as the black day as it would give a wrong message to the society,” said Karnik. He promised the teachers fraternity of extending all support to fulfil their demands.

Meanwhile, he informed that a memorandum has been sent to the Chief Minister requesting him to make few announcements on the occasion of Teachers' Day. Few of the requests include, granting 'aided' status to the school/colleges which were opened between 1987 and 1995, as per the announcement made in the 2007-08 budget.

To extend automated promotion to the aided institute teachers who have completed 10, 15 and 20 years of service, in the same lines of government school teachers.

In the memorandum, he has asked to implement recruitment policy to the physical teachers based on Prof Vaidyanathan report.

Medical facilities required for critically-ill patients in Kasaragod

Kasaragod, Mar 31: The latest incidents of critically-ill patients dying due to lack of medical attention has been a cause of concern for the people here who had largely been depended on hospitals in Mangalore.

However the lock down has hindered follow-up treatment for these critically ill as the Karnataka authorities has been steadfast in restricting entry into their land.

The people of Kasaragod has been largely depended on the medical facilities in Mangalore for critical illness care. It was the gross inadequacies in critical healthcare in the district besides rather-easy proximity to nearby and bigger town that many residing on the north-east of the district have since long been making it to Mangalore for treatment of critical illness like cancer, dialysis and the alike.

Karnataka govt to build Rs 200 crore pilgrim complexes at Tirumala

Tirupati, Jul 5: The Karnataka government will soon build a massive pilgrim amenities complex and marriage hall at Tirumala, the hill abode of Lord Venkateswara, at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore, a temple official said here on Saturday.

The state would soon submit a blueprint for the construction of the Rs 200 crore mega complexes to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that governs the hill shrine, the official said.

Consequently, based on the designs, TTD would construct the complexes with the given fund and after completion, they would be handed over to the Karnataka government, he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa would lay the foundation stone for the mammoth complexes on the hills some time next month, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to take part in the programme, he added.

Keep aside all these type of extra expenditure like spending for statues, monuments, pilgrim amnesties etc.

During this period of virus pandamic, please use all these amount for medicines, medical facilities, food and development of the state. We are facing shortage of medical facilites and the people are dying on the road by not getting a bed in the hospital. Please use these amounts for the same. During this Pandemic not even hindu brothers also accept this offer. Leave all vote politics and concentrate to develop the state.

Rain lashes Mangaluru, provides respite from heat

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Heavy rain lashed Mangaluru and surrounding areas on Saturday, providing the people respite from the sweltering heat, which they have been experiencing for the last few weeks.

The rain, which started around 10.30 pm on Friday, lashed heavily after 2 am. Later, there was drizzle for sometime before it stopped raining around 8 am.

People were seen walking towards the market to purchase essential commodities holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat.
