Bangalore, September 4: Despite facing growing dissidence within the party, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday stressed that he had no fears of losing power.

One of his senior cabinet colleagues likened the CM to a "Mangalore fish" saying he will complete his remaining term of 20 months.

"It is the common desire of every politician to remain in power till the end. But that doesn't happen. It's a natural comment. No need to attach any special reasons to it. I have completed one month in power.I would like to do well even in the future," the CM told reporters at the inauguration of civil and mechanical engineering blocks at SJB Institute of Technology in Kengeri.

It was in his speech at the function where he remarked that he would strive to build the state ''as long as he remains in power." This prompted reporters to ask him what he meant by 'as long as he was in power'.

Transport minister R Ashoka, who was present at the function sought to dispel any fears of instability in the one-month-old government. "I know the background of the CM. He is like a Mangalore fish, nobody can catch it. We all support him and he will complete his remaining term of 20 months without any hiccups. There will be good governance and he will make the state free from corruption," Ashoka said.

Karwar, Aug 6: In a shocking incident, a 40-day-old girl child was murdered by her own parents in Sirsi town in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district.

The accused are Priyanka (21) and her husband Chandrashekhar Bhat (42), residents of Ramanakoppa in Sahasrahalli in Yellapur.

According to police, the couple did not want a girl child and hence threw it into a well. The couple was arrested by the police the very next day.

The incident came to light after the child’s maternal uncle, Abhishek Jagadeesh Singh Choudhari, a resident of Rajeev Nagar in Sirsi, lodge a complaint with Yellapur police station. 

He had claimed that his sister Priyanka’s baby had been kidnapped and subsequently killed. 

Priyanka had claimed that she woke up around 2.30am on August 2 to find that her baby, Tanushri, was not in her cradle. Her husband’s family subsequently started searching for the baby, which they found dead inside a well. 

Choudhari suspected that Tanushri had been kidnapped, and had been killed by her abductors to erase any evidence of their crime.

Uttara Kannada superintendent of police Shivaprakash Devaraju constituted a team to crack the crime, and the cops, who subjected the parents to an interrogation, found that they were the culprits.

Tumakuru, Jan 4: Three people were burnt alive and four others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a four-wheeler (Omni van) and a private bus on NH-206 near Doddaguni in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said that Narasamma’s relatives and villagers were taking her to a hospital in Nittur when a private bus, heading to Shivamogga from Bengaluru, collided with the van on the tank bund road near Doddguni around 0200 hrs. The two vehicles caught fire and Vasanthkumar, Ramaiah and Narasamma were burnt alive in the van. The passengers in the private bus escaped unhurt.

The deceased were identified as Vasanthkumar (23), Ramaiah (62) and Narsamma (60) of N Hosahalli in Gubbi taluk, whereas the injured were identified as Ravikumar (23), Radhamani (30), Narasimha Murthy (40) and Gowramma (28).

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 19: A Chikkamagaluru court on Saturday were sentenced to death two persons convicted of rape and murder 18-year-old girl in 2016.

Pradeep M, 32, and Santhosh, 24, of Vykuntapura in Sringeri taluk raped a 18-year-old girl while she was returning home from college on Februrary 16, 2016.

The crime in which a first year B.Com student who was walking towards her home in a footway was stopped, raped and murdered by the duo. The killers then had dumped her body in a discarded well.
