World Physiotherapy Day celebrated at Dr M V Shetty College

Mangalore, September 8: A free workshop was held on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day on September 8 at Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy, here.

After inaugurating the workshop Dr Umasankar Mohanty, President IAP and MTFI, appreciated Dr M V Shetty College for organising world physiotherapy day. He said that physiotherapists come from paediatric to geriatric community to improve quality of life and physio also work on heart and mind of patient.

Presiding over the function, Dr Ranjith Shetty, Trustee, Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust, said that in short span of 15 years physiotherapy has come along a long way.

As time progresses the rehabilitation services will be on bloom, and hence students should be ready by then, he said.

Dr Ketan Bhatikar, EC Member IAP & Convenor SFTFI, Goa, who was the guest of honour called upon the gathering to think about present and have a better future, than lamenting for the past things”.

Dr Susan Varghese, Principal, Dr MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy delivered welcomed address. Dr. Mohammad Suhail, Asst. Professor, Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy proposed vote of thanks.

The workshop was held in three sessions. The first session was taken by Dr Umasankar Mohanty. He made the delegates to actively participate on the topics “Manual Therapy and Taping Techniques for shoulder dysfunctions”. The second session knowledge to the topic “Diagnosis of Neurologic Disorder Topographical and Etiological Approach to Diagnosis”, and the last session was taken of the workshop was taken by Dr. Leah Mohandas, Lecturer Dr. M.V.Shetty college of physiotherapy spoke on the topic “Sport Psychology”

As a part of the World Physiotherapy Day there will be a Blood Donation Camp which is to be held at Govt Wenlock Hospital and the keynote address will be given by Dr. Sangameshwar, District Medical Officer, Govt Wenlock Hopital, and Mangalore.

Hassan, July 31: A police sub-inspector (PSI) reportedly hanged himself at his official quarters in Channarayapatna town today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran Kumar, 34, who was in charge of Channarayapatna rural police station.

Sources said that he was upset after two murder cases were reported in the last 24 hours in his limits. Kiran reportedly told colleagues an hour before the extreme step that he feared he would be suspended.  

According to locals, the SI was upset after news of the two murders due to alleged negligence of the police spread on social media. He killed himself before a visit by senior officials. IGP, southern range, and SP Srinivasagowda was planning to visit the town and the spots where the murders took place on Friday.

Kiran, a native of Lalanakere village in Arsikere taluk, was known for his rapport with local people. He was alone when the incident took place. His wife and children had gone to Lalanakere for the Varamahalakashmi festival on Thursday night. The body was shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem.

Mangaluru, Mar 1: Karnataka Minister for Major and Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar said that the flight service between Mangaluru and Hubballi will begin on March 29 under UDAN scheme.

Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the meeting of Industries Commerce of Magaluru, here on Saturday evening, he said while the city of Ports is the second busiest international airport after Bengaluru in Karnataka, other places, namely Hubballi, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Bidar, have come on the air map with the UDAN scheme.

Stating that UDAN launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was what the Golden Quadrilateral highway project of former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee had envisaged, Mr. Shettar noted that more flights are operating to and from Mangaluru now. This has paved the way for Industrialisation of the important city on the Bombay-Karnataka region, he added.

Bengaluru, Jun 26: A 60-year-old woman, who tested positive for COVID-19 positive and was undergoing treatment, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the restroom of KC General hospital last night.

According to the police, the 60-year-old female COVID-19 patient hung herself in the restroom of KC general hospital in Bengaluru. She was admitted to the hospital on June 18 along with her daughter-in-law and grandson.

"Around 2 am, she went to the washroom. When she did not return back, her daughter-in-law went to check where she found her hanging dead," confirmed Bengaluru police.

An investigation into the matter is underway, police said.
