One killed as bus runs over hut in Udyavara

Udupi, September 8: A youth was killed and a few others injured as a KSRTC Bus, ran over huts in a slum, beside the NH-66, at Udyavara here on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sangappa Cheluvadi (24), a native of Bagalkot district.

The incident took place in front of Classic Garage, at around 7:10 am, when a private bus plying towards Mangalore, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle took extreme right and dashed the KSRTC bus moving towards Udupi.

In an attempt to avoid the collusion KSRTC driver took to extreme left. As he lost control over the bus, it ran over the slum.

Some of the passengers and three slum dwellers were also injured in the accident.

Kaup police registered a case and investigating.

Mangaluru, June 6: As many as 24 coronavirus positive cases reported in Dakshina Kannada in 24 hours (from 5 p.m. June 5 to 5 p.m. June 6). 

With this the total number of covid-19 cases mounted to 167, among which 88 are currently active. 

Among the newly detected 24 cases 11 are Maharashtra returnees, 6 are Dubai returnees, 1 is Arabia returnee, 1 is Ukraine/Turkey returnee. And source of 5 new cases still remained untraced.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: The results of Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations will be announced on Monday, August 10.

Primary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, "The results will be announced at about 3 pm on August 10."

This year, over 8.50 lakh students appeared for the exams amidst the Covid-19 pandemic fear across the state.

The department conducted the exams successfully despite resistance from various quarters and pressure to postpone the exams.

Shivamogga, Jun 8: Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari in Shivamogga re-opened on Monday at 9 am.

Zoo authorities said that they are ensuring that all standard operating procedures are being followed, including ensuring social distancing and wearing of masks by visitors.

It is being ensured that pairs of birds are being kept inside enclosures.

Regular sweeping and spraying on the premises are also being taken care of, authorities said.

Floor markings have been made at the ticket counter to maintain social distancing.
