Child labourer rescued from hotel

Mangalore, September 10: An underage boy, found engaged in hotel in Asaigoli, was rescued in a raid on Friday.

The boy identified as Zubair, hailing from Andra Pradesh, was handed over to the child welfare department.

A group of BSW students, who noticed the child labourer during a survey in Asaigoli, had informed the Childline officials in the morning.

After securing enough information, the Childline officials along with Labour Inspector visited the spot at 4:00 pm and taken the boy into their custody.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A youth died on the spot in a ghastly road mishap on Netravati Bridge near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today evening.

Police sources said that the face of the youth, who was riding a motorbike, has been damaged beyond recognition. He died on the spot. 

More details about the mishap are yet to be known. A case has been registered at Mangaluru Traffic police station.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi has successfully treated a COVID-19 patient through plasma therapy, state medical education minister K Sudhakar said today.

"Karnataka achieves yet another milestone in battle against #COVID19. KIMS Hubli has successfully treated a Covid19 patient through Plasma Therapy & is the first institute in the state to accomplish this. Congrats to KIMS doctors & staff for this feat!" Mr Sudhakar tweeted.

In plasma therapy treatment, plasma cells from a COVID-19 patient, who has recovered from the disease, is transfused to a coronavirus patient who is in critical condition to treat him.

Plasma therapy was effectively used in the past during Ebola and the Spanish flu pandemic.

Belagavi, Mar 13: Former Karnataka Minister and Senior Congress leader H K Patil on Thursday alleged that the ruling BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has shown negligence towards completion of the irrigation projects in North-Karnataka region.

Mr. Patil said that no sufficient provision was made in the Budget for 2020-21 presented by Yediyurappa on March 5.

North Karnataka region people, farmers, and leaders expected more fund allocation to complete the pending and ongoing irrigation projects, but they are disappointed.
