IOB's business crosses Rs 2, 59, 000 crore'

Mangalore, September 10: Indian Overseas Bank, which is in the midst of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, has crossed business level of Rs 2,59,000 crore recording an increase of 35.2 per cent growth as on March 31, 2011, said M Narendra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, IOB.

He was speaking with media persons at 'Meet the Press' programme organized by DK District Working Journalists' Association at press club here on Saturday.

He said Bank has deposits of Rs 7,037 crore, advances of Rs 4,066 crore with a total business exceeding Rs 11,103 crore.

The Chairman said that it was the endeavour of the bank to set up 55% of its branches at unbanked and underbanked areas.

The IOB Bhoomi Lakshmi was intended to give assistance to the small farmers to buy land and IOB Sagar Lakshmi to extend working capital to fisherwomen, he said.

He said the number of Automated Teller Machines would be raised from 1,210 to 3,000 at the shortest possible period.

IOB has 25 branches functioning under Mangalore Regional Office and four more branches were added. IOB is also planning to open 11 branches in and around Mangalore, he revealed.

Mr Narendra said under financial inclusion, Mangalore Region has covered 7 villages.

One more case filed against Mangaluru airport bomber Aditya Rao

Mangaluru, Jan 23: Bajpe Police on Thursday registered yet another case against the prime accused in Mangaluru International Airport case, Aditya Rao.

According to the police, a complaint was received from the officials of Indigo flight that they had to delay their flight scheduled to take off for Hyderabad at 1615 hrs after receiving a hoax call from Aditya, threatening of bomb.

They also asserted that the passengers were de-boarded from the flight and the luggages were brought back to security check again.

Shwetha Rasquinha conferred doctorate by Mangalore University

Mangaluru, Jan 2: Shwetha Rasquinha, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work, St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by the Mangalore University for her thesis titled “Effectiveness of Social work intervention on caretakers of cancer patients- A social work study in Mangalore”.

She did her studies under the guidance of Dr Rameela Shekhar, Professor (Rtd), School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.

Ms Shwetha Rasquinha hails from Vittal, D/o Vincent Rasquinha and Late Regina Rasquinha, and is the second person to complete doctoral studies from the Vittal Parish.

Her colleagues and well-wishers have congratulated her for her highest achievement in academics and successful completion of quality research.

Directors of hospitals will be held responsible for complaints in treating COVID-19 patients: Karnaaka Minister

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Karnataka Minister of Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar said on Tuesday that the directors of institutions will be held responsible if any there are any complaints and lack of facilities in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

'Since a couple of days, there are reports in media regarding the admission of COVID-19 patients, lack of hygiene and the supply of sub-standard food to patients. The country is appreciating Karnataka and Bengaluru for controlling the spread of coronavirus. This was possible due to tireless efforts from past several months and these kinds of reports emerging now cannot be tolerated," Sudhakar said.

He added, "There can be no compromise in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. It must be ensured that these kinds of complaints will not be repeated. Directors of hospitals will be held responsible if there are complaints."

The medical education minister further said that asymptomatic patients will be kept in COVID-Care Centres and if they develop symptoms in the care centres, they will be shifted to hospitals for further treatment.

"Since the COVID-19 cases are increasing, private hospitals have been roped in to treat coronavirus patients. Officials have to ensure that beds are reserved and all arrangements are made as per the government order. Guidelines will soon be issued for monitoring asymptomatic cases in COVID care centres," he added.

Karnataka on Tuesday reported 322 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and eight deaths.
According to the state health department, the total number of positive cases has mounted to 9,721 and 150 deaths. So far, 6,004 people have been discharged.
