Beary Sahitya Academy gears up for mega convention in city

Mangalore, September 15: Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will be organising a two day state level 'Beary Convention' on December 10 and 11 at Town Hall here.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, M B Abdul Rahman, the Chairman of the Academy, said as many as 10 thousand people including 1500 representatives of various Beary organisations from across the country and abroad are expected to participate in the convention, to be held under the leadership of former state education minister B A Moideen.

He said the convention would be comprised of various sessions including debate, poets-meet, face-to-face with litterateurs, felicitation, exhibition, food festival and culture show.

Kannada and English literary works of senior writers like Dr Sushila P Upadhyaya and Prof B M Ichlangodu, on Beary language, culture, history and lifestyle will be released in the convention, he said.

Mr Rahman said social thinkers, religious leaders and noted personalities would discuss and exchange their views about Beary language, literature, culture, and problems of education, employment and challenges faced by women in Beary community.

Explaining the achievements of newly found academy, he said, as many as 56 programmes have been conducted in different parts of Karnataka and outside, by the Beary academy, within a span of 23 months after its establishment.

The Chairman said the Beary convention is being organised in Mangalore after a long gam. The first Beary convention was held in city in 1998.

Registrar of the Academy Umarabba, members Raheem Uchil, SP Umar Farooq and P Mohammed were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: As many as 25 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the State till now, said Karnataka's Health Department.

"25 new COVID-19 cases reported in the State from 5 pm Friday to 5 pm on Saturday. The total number of positive cases in the State is 384 including 14 deaths and 104 discharges," added the Health Department.

The Health Department has appealed to the doctors, who are willing to volunteer in the fight against coronavirus, to reach out to the government.

A total of 14,378 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country so far, with 480 deaths being reported due to the virus.

Udupi, Mar 1: Acting on credible information, Udupi district police arrested five persons and seized 1.35 kg of crude gold worth Rs 56.99 lakh from the possession of the accused, custom department said on Sunday.

A case has been registered against four people at Kundapur and one at Byndoor on charges of gold smuggling. The accused were transporting gold from Calicut to Bhatkal, informed Joannes George, joint Commissioner of Customs.

Off these five accused, four persons were held at Kundapur, while other at Byndoor on Saturday evening.

Kasaragod, Apr 1: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced a special action plan for Kasargod district where more people testing positive to the Coronovirous.

"The northern most district of the State has become the hot bed of Coronavirus infection with the maximum number of positive cases confirmed in Kerala," the Chief Minister told a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

“A special action plan will be implemented in Kasargod. Currently, Kasargod district has the maximum number of positive cases and also the highest number of people under hospital observation. Data from the panchayats in the district will be used to test people with symptoms and also to identify people in contact with them," he said.
