Minister seeks contractors, builders, engineers support for development of city roads

Mangalore, September 20: The work pertaining to the comprehensive development of Mangalore city should be completed within the stipulated time frame, and it could be followed up submitting new proposals to the State government, said District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.

He was addressing a meeting of MCC authorities, builders and the members of Engineers Association at Nethravati Hall in Zilla Panchayat on Monday.

Sketching out plans for the development of Mangalore city, he asked the contractors, builders, architects and the engineers to extend their support for the comprehensive development of 45 km road in Mangalore. The work will be taken up in public-private partnership. As many as 115 representatives took part in the meeting and they sought a week's time to take a right decision.


“The Mangalore roads will be developed on 'own your road, own your park' concept. Every kilometre road will be supervised by an engineer for maintaining the standard quality,” informed the Minister.

Sanath Shetty from SKS Builders agreed to upgrade KPT-Padav road to international standards. Builder K C Nayak too agreed to provide all help for the road development. The Minister stressed on the need for the availability of online information of the road development work.

The Minister informed about the plan of the Environment Department to announce Rs 10,000 for those who inform about the trucks which dump debris and wastes in public places. Many suggested that the the roads in front of the temples in the city must be developed.

Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat, Mayor Praveen Anchan and others were present.

Udupi, May 2: During the lockdown period the Department of Public Library digitised more books to the Karnataka Digital Public Library (KDPL).

According to the data released by the KDPL issued here on Saturday , as on April 29, 89,239 people from the State have already registered for the digital library.  From these 1,807 are from Dakshina Kannada district and 605 from the Udupi district.

The digital library already has a repository of 35,500 e-books, 4,800 videos, 59,980 e-journals and 1,112 items for children.

Mangaluru, Jan 10: To mark the Karavali Utsav the district administration held a colourful procession from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsav Grounds Lalbagh here on Friday.

The colourful procession was inaugurated by the District Minister In-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries. Various troupes from all over the state are participating in the procession from Nehru Maidan to the Karavali grounds.

Addressing the gathering Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “Karavali Utsav is a meaningful festival. The Tradition and culture of Dakshina Kannada is very meaningful. By organizing Utsav’s we are highlighting our tradition and Culture to national and international levels.

Social media giant Twitter briefly blocked the Karnataka BJP's account after it posted several provocative tweets and taunted Muslim women.

Ironically, the BJP called its unhygienic tweets as "liberal views". "It is unfortunate that our handle was locked out by Twitter for speaking the truth about liberals," it said.

"A big thanks for your support and encouragement. Satymeva Jayate. Jai Hind," the political party said to its supporters.

However, it did not specify for how long Twitter blocked its account but tweeted again on Wednesday after Monday.

Last week Karnataka BJP drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

It tweeted on Monday, accusing Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vijay Bahuguna for "cheating" Dalits.

Karnataka BJP spokesperson G. Madhusudhan said that he had no idea about the account being blocked and then unblocked by Twitter.

"What has happened? I don't know," said Madhusudhana.

Reacting to the drubbing BJP suffered in the Delhi Assembly polls, the party tweeted that there is no need to lose heart.

"Now is the time to go back to voters to win their hearts and minds. Let us plan for 2025 from today. We are with you," tweeted Karnataka BJP on Wednesday.

Though BJP congratulated Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for winning the Delhi polls, the party highlighted that it managed to increase it vote share by six per cent compared to 2015.
