Mangalore, September 21: District-In-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar assured to take steps to provide Rs 40 lakhs to realise the demand of the Karnataka State Tailors' Association for the construction of 'Tailors' Bhavan' at the tailors district convention and pension card distribution programme organised at Town Hall on Tuesday.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, he said that 2,074 people in the State have received the new pension scheme. Of this, 1,021 are the tailors from the undivided DK district. Efforts will be made to increase the benefits granted by State government under the new pension scheme from five to 10 years, he added.

Appreciating the crowd who attended the convention, Palemar said that the tailors have set an example that with unity, one can get benefits for his community. Tailors who were considered as unorganised labourers have proved themselves as organised, he added.

Several initiatives have been introduced by the government for people of the backward community and these can be availed by tailors. One can avail scholarship, fund for weddings, pregnancy benefits, pension schemes and others, he said.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat said that he had put a lot of efforts to bring the unorgnaised labourers welfare fund committee into being. As a result, the new pension scheme brings a lot of benefits to the labourers. Apart from beedi, one profession that reaches every house is tailoring and hence it plays a huge role in the development of the community, he added.

Association Chief Secretary Vishwanath Shettigar said that DK District has 16,901 tailors and the state has 10 lakh tailors. In DK District, 610 people have received cards under the new pension scheme and in Udupi 593 have received them.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Within hours after claiming that it has decided to prohibit schools from schools from conducting online classes till Class 7, the Karnataka government has taken a U-turn and said that currently than ban is only till Class 5.

“Karnataka Govt has decided to stop all online classes for LKG, UKG & classes up to 5th std. To extend this up to 7th std is only a suggestion from few cabinet ministers as expressed in an informal discussion and NOT a decision,” tweeted Prime and Secondary Minister Suresh Kumar.

Law Minister J C Madhuswamy earlier today had stated that the decision to ban online classes till 7th standard was taken by the government.  "All of us were of the opinion that there were challenges faced by students studying in rural areas. Hence, we urged the government to extend the ban on online classes till 7 standard," he said

Bengaluru, Feb 29: The BJP leaders in Karnataka rallied behind Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal amid a controversy over his remarks that centenarian freedom fighter HS Doreswamy was a "Pakistani agent."

The saffron party leaders have extended support to Yatnal, days after he called Doreswamy a "fake freedom fighter" who behaves like a "Pakistani agent".

Yatnal made the comments at a press conference on February 25 while reacting to a query on a public meeting organised by the Congress titled 'Save the Constitution'.

"There are many fake freedom fighters. There is one in Bengaluru. Now we have to say what Doreswamy is. Where is that old man? He behaves like a Pakistan agent," Patil had said.

"Doreswamy is an elderly person and senior to all. He had participated in various agitations. He should also see what to talk and who will be hurt with those statements. We have all seen what he said about Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters in Kodagu on Saturday reacting to Yatnal's outburst against Doreswamy.

Noting that the statements were made in bitter taste, Kumar said, "If you speak unpleasant (things), you will hear unpleasant."

Bellary City MLA G Somashekara Reddy too backed Yatnal saying that the his statement was appropriate. "There is nothing wrong in his statement. It is absolutely correct. I support him. It is not just okay to be a freedom fighter, but he should be a 'Deshbhakt' (patriot) too, who respects the unity and integrity of the nation."

On Friday, another BJP Minister KS Eshwarappa slammed Doreswamy alleging that he had visited Amulya Leona's residence and shared a good relationship with her family.

Leona had raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at an anti-CAA event here on February 21, taking everybody present by shock and dismay.

"We respect Doreswamy but he dances to the tune of Congress and supports whatever their leaders say," Eshwarappa said.
