Squad for Commonwealth Life saving Championships announced

Mangalore, September 21: Sanketh Bengre and Tushanth D Bengre will represent India at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships at Durban, South Africa from September 27 to October 1.

Sanketh and Thushant won gold medals at the National Championship Rescue India-2011 held at Thiruvanthapuram, stated Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yatish Baikampady. Other members of the team are Tarun Murgesh (Chennai), Yashraj Tarkar (Maharashtra), Thushanth Bengre, Sanketh Bengre and Rahul Yadav (Kolkata).

Yusuf Chudesra of Maharashtra will be the coach and team Manager. The gold medallist at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships will qualify for the World Championships to be held at Australia in 2012.

Mangaluru, Apr 25: In the backdrop of protest staged by locals against the cremation of a 75-year-old woman, who was tested positive for coronavirus, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B on Friday stated that there is no chance of anyone getting infected from a corpse.

Protocols, as laid by the Centre with regard to cremation of Covid-19 patients, will be followed, said Sindhu in a statement.

The release added that the COVID-19 victims would be buried as per their religious customs. Not more than 20 people would be allowed to perform the last rites. Even closest relatives of the deceased would not be allowed to touch or bathe the body, the release said.

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Ahead of popular Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan, Karnataka postal circle has introduced an online portal 'Rakhi Post' to deliver rakhis across the country amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

This year Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Monday, August 3.

This service can be used to send rakhis to people across the country without violating the coronavirus norms.

Speaking to news agency, Senior Superintendent of Post offices, Shriharsha N said, "I am happy to announce that Karnataka postal circle has introduced an online portal 'rakhi post' to deliver rakhis to people during coronavirus phase."

"People willing to avail this service can visit this portal and pay a nominal amount of Rs 100 to send a rakhi," Shriharsha said.

The official has suggested to avail the service before July 31 for the timely delivery of rakhis.

The portal is also offering a special service to send rakhis to the soldier deployed on the borders. "We have also introduced a unique feature to deliver rakhis to Indian soldiers on the borders," he added.

Kasaragod, Apr 7: The new COVID Hospital at the Kasaragod Medical College has started functioning, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday.

The new administrative block of Kasaragod Medical College was converted into a COVID-19 Hospital for providing better treatment facilities to the coronavirus patients, the Chief Minister said while addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

Stating that the hospital was converted to a Corona Care Hospital in just four days, he said 200 beds and 10 ICU beds are now ready.
