September 24, 2011

Mangalore, September 24: The full-fledged registration process of Aadhar (Unique Identity Card) in Dakshina Kannada district will begin on September 29 and 225 stations will be opened in various parts of the district to facilitate the quick implementation of the programme, informed Centre for e-Governance Chief Executive Officer Dr D H Ravindran.

Speaking to media persons prior to the workshop on Aadhar held for taluk and district level officers at the Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday, Dr Ravindran said that the nodal authority will cover nearly 21 lakh people in the district and will provide unique identity to all. The Registrar has intended to complete the registration process in the district within four months.

The registration process which has already begun in the post offices, will now be extended to other stations. In the later stages, mobile vans will be introduced to go to the interior villages and cover the village population, informed the officer.

“In the first stage, majority of the population will be covered, while in the later stages homeless people, tribal and other uninformed population will be provided with the unique number. An introducer is required during registration for those people without the proper address. The MCC Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, forest officers can act as the introducers so that even the deprived class does not miss the opportunity to register for Aadhar,” said the Officer.

Registration process

Those who wish to register for obtaining Unique Identification Number should collect an application form, fill the required information and return it back to the Registration Centre. Once the information is scanned, it will be followed by capturing the photograph, scanning the Iris, taking the finger prints. One should have to submit certain documents to prove their identity, address proof and date of birth proof. The documents can either be voter ID, passport, bank pass book, driving licence, ration card etc. Birth certificate, SSLC marks card or passport should be submitted to prove the date of birth. Within 30 to 60 days of registration, the person would receive the 12 digit number which provides a unique identity to the person.

Dr Ravindran said that though it is not mandatory to have the unique ID, it is better to have the ID as it provides an identity to the individual. Any one with any nationality, who has come to India to stay for a specific duration too can avail the benefit. And the service is rendered completely free of cost.

Advantages

Explaining the advantages of possessing Aadhar number, Dr Ravindran said that Aadhar would prove to be of great help while admitting children to school, availing senior citizen pension, get employment, open bank accounts, avail health facilities etc.

Registration process which started in Mysore and Tumkur districts on pilot basis, has covered 97 per cent of the population in these two districts. As many as 68 lakh population have already received Aadhar numbers across the State. Approximately 50,000 people register for Aadhar everyday, in different stations in Bangalore alone, said the Officer.

From a new born baby to the senior citizen, all are eligible to obtain the number. However, in case of children, the process should be revised and renewed when they reach the age of five and 12.

Bengaluru, Mar 30: Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL) has received the first tranche of Rs 2,000 crore following disinvestment of Global Village Techparks to repay debts following the death of its founder V G Siddhartha.
In August last year, CDEL executed definitive agreements with entities belonging to Blackstone Group and Salarpuria Sattva Group for investment in GV Techparks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of group company Tanglin Development Ltd (TDL), at an enterprise value of Rs 2,700 crore.
The balance amount is expected to be received after the receipt of few statutory approvals, CDEL said in a statement.
"Out of the money received in first tranche, the company has paid off its debts in full including principal and interest amounting to Rs 1,644 crore to the lenders despite difficult economic conditions," it said.
Post this payment, the consolidated debt of the company and its subsidiaries stands at Rs 3,200 crore as on March 27. This includes debt of Rs 1,400 crore of its subsidiary Sical Logistics Ltd where disinvestment process is in progress.
"The company and subsidiaries have repaid around Rs 4,000 crore to the lenders since the beginning of this financial year," CDEL said.
"With the continuous support of stakeholders of the company, the current management is working to ensure better liquidity and operational efficiency. The company is confident of the future ahead despite various challenges," it added.
The company has been in rough waters after its founder V G Siddhartha took his own life as debt strains began to emerge in his company. Since his death in July last year, CDEL has been trying to divest its assets to pare debts.
On July 30, 2019, CDEL informed stock exchanges about Siddhartha's disappearance. In a letter that was purportedly written by him, the Cafe Coffee Day founder said: "I could not take any more pressure from one of the private equity partners forcing me to buy back shares."
