Mangalore, September 25: Make a Difference (MAD), a youth volunteer network that works with underprivileged children completed 'Tour de difference' wherein volunteers cycled to 12 Indian cities, and covered 4,240 kilometers in the months of August and September and were able to raise a sum of Rs 3.60 lakh towards the purchase of Cambridge syllabus textbooks for 300 underprivileged children in Mangalore.

Sharing the experience, Raichand, a final year MBBS student from KMC Mangalore, said: “I am very excited having completed a huge task.”

Sebastian Thele from Germany said the tour was an amazing experience. “I did not have such an experience in my life.” While Sudhith from Cohin who joined the team from Cochin said it was an awesome experience. “We met people who were curious to know what MAD is all about,” he said.

Speaking about the condition of the road, both Raichand and Sebastian said the roads were excellent till Kerala. “However, the roads are in deplorable condition in Kerala. There were few stretches where one had to search for the existence of the road.”

MAD Mangalore chapter President Greeshma Rai said that the main objective of the expedition was to raise Rs 100 for every kilometre the cyclists cover, and thereby meet the costs incurred by the Mangalore chapter of MAD on Cambridge syllabus textbooks for the 300 children under its wings and to also promote and stress the importance of education to the future of the country.

A rally was organised to welcome Tour de Difference back to Mangalore. The rally concluded at Mangalore Press Club on Saturday. They cycled to 12 cities—Mangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Viojayawada, Chennai, Vellore, Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin.

MAD in Mangalore has been instrumental in four centres namely Balika Ashram in Kankanady, Aloysius Boys Homes, Ullal, Prajna Group of Institutions at Marnamikatta and CARDTS, Nantoor.

Mangaluru, May 26: Days after the government of India approved the use of chartered flights for the repatriation of Indians stranded across the world amidst covid-19 lockdown, two NRI entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia have offer to bear the cost of repatriation if they get formal green signal to repatriate stranded Indians from Dammam to Mangaluru International Airport before June 5.

Althaf Ullal and Basheer Sagar, the two Kannadiga Directors of Al Khobar-based Saqco, have made this offer in a letter written to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The duo have assured that their company will bear the cost of the first chartered flight from Dammam to Mangaluru if the government paves way for its operation by June 5.

It is learnt that many private airliners have come forward to operate chartered flight and are waiting for final clearance from the government. It will cost approximately Rs 45 lakh to hire chartered flight with 180 capacity from Dammam to Mangaluru.

Pregnant women, medical emergency cases, senior citizens on visit visas, those who lost jobs due to lockdown among other stranded Indians will be given priority in this flight, they said.

"Our company will completely bear this cost. Passengers only need to bear the cost of institutional quarantine after reaching Mangaluru," they have clarified.

Dammam, Feb 3: Harish Bangera, 32, who was arrested in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia more than a month ago after offensive Facebook post went viral, has remained incommunicado.

Bangera, who hails from Goyadibettu in Bijadi village of Kundapur taluk, Udupi district, was an air-conditioning technician for a company in Dammam, capital of Saudi's eastern province.

He was arrested on December 20, 2019 after he posted derogatory messages on Facebook against crown prince Mohammad bin Salman and went on to claim that a Ram temple will be built in the holy city of Makkah too just like in Ayodhya where the Babri mosque was demolished.

Fearing legal action, he later posted a video pleading for forgiveness. “I have committed a mistake. Please forgive me. I will never upload any such posts again," he is seen saying in the video.

After his arrest, his roommate, who happens to be a Pakistani, has reportedly made several attempt to contact him, but in vain. He also has approached many Indian and Saudi authorities in his bid to get Bangera out of prison, sources said.

The Saudi authorities have not even responded to the messages of Indian Ministry of External Affairs. "We've made many efforts to contact the Saudi authorities but they haven't responded,” MEA sources said.

There can be many such people in the Kingdom.

They should be identified and treated in the same way.

These are real terrorists, keep him few years in jail,  they should not be let free. Otherwise they will forget and commit again.

May God help us.
