Pre-orientation programme for MBA held at AIMIT

Mangalore, September 27: The pre-orientation programme for the I MBA (2011-13) batch of St. Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), St Aloysius College, Beeri, near here commenced on Monday.

The Director, Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, the Chairman of the MBA programme, Dr. Rev. Oswald Mascarenhas SJ, the Chairman, MBA Dept and the Dean (Academics) Dr. Rowena Wright along with the faculty members of the department were present on the occasion.

The Director, Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo SJ, lead the incoming MBA students in prayer. The day also marked the birthday of the Chairman, Rev. Dr. Oswald Mascarenhas SJ and so involved double celebration – the arrival of a biggest batch of students and a platinum jubilee year for Rev. Dr. Oswald Mascarenhas SJ.

The chairman welcomed the new batch of students giving them a glimpse of the MBA programme and initiating them into the AIMIT mantras of creativity, innovation, imagination and critical thinking. It was followed by the Registrar, Dr A M Narahari, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) informing the students about the examination rules and regulations.

Mrs. Rajani and Mrs. Claret conducted an English Lab sessions giving the students an introduction to the intricacies of business communication.

Mr David Noronha took the students through an audio-visual tour of the management world through a management documentary. Mr. Justin and Ms. Sneha were the programme co-ordinators. Mr Prashanth was the MC for the programme.

For the first time since the inception of the MBA programme at St Aloysius College, the College is getting the largest number of enthusiastic students from all over the Country. Many of the students enrolled have work experience.

The MBA programme at AIMIT is one of the best Business Schools in the Country, offering choice based credit system right from the first semester.

The Institute also takes a lot of initiative to training the future managers to be excellent communicators through the internationally known public speaking programme offered by Toast Master's.

Bengaluru, Feb 24: Raising questions about the situation in Kashmir, senior Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister Sidddaramaiah on Monday asked the BJP heading the union government to prove 'normalcy' by hosting US President Donald Trump's event in the valley.

If @BJP4India feels Kashmir has returned to Normalcy, & If @BJP4India feels that there is no govt orchestrated violence. Now is the time to prove the same by hosting @realDonaldTrump's event at Kashmir, Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Amid concerns raised by opposition parties, the government has said efforts have been made to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir which faced months of restrictions after its special status under Article 370 was scrapped in August last year.

Siddaramaiah, who is Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly, in another tweet hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the long wall built near the airport in Ahmedabad allegedly to block the view of a slum, ahead of Trump's visit.

It is time for @realDonaldTrump to get inspired from @narendramodi. Inspiration to build decorative walls to hide not so decorative life!! he tweeted. The opposition Congress in Gujarat had accused the BJP- ruled civic body in Ahmedabad of building the 500-meter long wall to block the view of a slum colony. Refuting the allegations, AMC officials had said the construction of the wall, around four feet in height, was approved much before Trump's Gujarat visit was finalised.

Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and a high-level delegation, arrived in Ahmedabad around noon on Monday for a little less than a 36-hour-long trip.

Bengaluru, June 14: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government of Karnataka has once again urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union BJP government to release GST compensation worth Rs 10,208 crore that is due for the state.

The request was placed with Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman during the 40th GST council meeting, in which Karnataka Home Minister and state’s representative to the council, Basavaraj Bommai, participated.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bommai said that Rs 10,208 crore was due from the Centre as GST compensation for four four months - from March to May.

“We have requested the Centre to release Rs 1,460 crore - pertaining to GST compensation for the month of March - as soon as possible due to the dire financial conditions of the state,” he said.

Bommai said that the state was confident that the funds will be released soon, noting that Karnataka had recently received Rs 4,314 in GST compensation for three months, between December 2019 to February 2020.

Meanwhile, the state also proposed the Council to reduce penalty for delay in filing GST. Bommai said that while people are made to pay 18% of the tax as fine in delay in payment, Karnataka has asked the Centre to reduce the percentage by half to 9%.

Udupi, Jul 7: A hotelier committed suicide by jumping into a well at Hiriadka in Udupi district last evening. 

The deceased is Raghavendra Bhat (48), a resident of Kadiyali and owner of Hotel Shivasagar in Kadiyali.

He had been to his brother's house in Hiriyadka where he resorted to the extreme step. 

He was known for organising tiger dance competitions during Sri Krishnashtami every year.

He had contested the Udupi CMC election from Congress party, but had lost by a few votes. Later he had joined the BJP.

A case has been registered ar Hiriadka police station and investigations are on.
