BJP workers in city celebrate Koppal by-poll victory

Mangalore, September 30: Workers of Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated their party's win in the Koppal Assembly by-polls.

As soon as the election results were announce on Thursday dozens of party works gathered outside the party office at Kodiyalbail in the city, burst crackers and distributed sweets.

The party continued to keep a clean slate in by-polls held in Karnataka after BJP government came to power in 2008.

Thursday's results also marks the maiden win in a by-poll after D V Sadananda Gowda, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP took over reigns of the state as the CM.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Humanity Forum of Mangaluru today handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the aggrieved family of Naushin, who was killed in arbitrary police firing on December 19 in the city.

A team of philanthropists led by Muslim Central Committee chairman K S Mohammad Masood visited Shaheed Nausheen’s house at Kudroli and handed over the cheque. Several philanthropists have contributed to this humanitarian aid.

Corporator Shamsuddin Kudroli, S M Rasheed Haji, Mansoor Ahmed Azad, Ibrahim Kodichal, Haneef Haji, Asif Deals and Ashraf Kinara were present among others.

Mangaluru, July 29: The police have managed to nab a youth in connection with issuing death threat against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the outgoing deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjit, a resident of Bajpe, on the outskirts of the city. He is said to be Hindutva activist. 

The death threat came in the wake of the officer’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

Even though the IAS officer had not lodged any complaint, Moodbidri police had registered a suo motu case after a WhatsApp screenshot of the death threat went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Sindhu B Rupesh was transferred and posted as director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A teenage girl drowned after a boat in which she was traveling in capsized in the river Netravati at Uliya Hoige, Ullal, police said on Monday.

Meanwhile, four other girls who were also traveling on the same boat were rescued by the locals, the police added. The mishap happened on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Renita, a resident of Miyapadavu.
