Tulu Bhavana should start Tulu classes for public: Palemar

Mangalore, October 2: District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar on Saturday laid foundation stone for Tulu Bhavan at Urva in Mangalore.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Tulu Bhavana should not be a replica of any other concrete structure, but it should depict the culture and heritage of Tulu Nadu. To achieve this, special care should be taken while designing the structure, he added.

Emphasising the need for various Tulu related activities to be taken up in the Tulu Bhavana, the Minister said that provision should be made in the Bhavana to start Tulu classes for the public.

He said that the State government has released Rs 2 crore for the Bhavana and the remaining Rs 2.8 crore will be released next year, if the work is carried out as per the schedule.

MLC Bharathi Shetty, who had played a key role in urging the government to sanction funds for Tulu Bhavana said that she hopes to see the building which would depict the culture of Tulu Nadu.

“I had dreamt of Tulu Bhavana coming up on at least one acre land. I am surprisedd to see that the Bhavana is coming up on 51 cents of area,” said Bharathi Shetty.

Meanwhile, she urged the Government to erect the statue of Rani Abbakka in the heart of the city. “You visit Hubli and you will be shocked to see the proud feeling that Hubli citizens have towards Kittur Rani Chennamma. In contrary, people in Dakshina Kannada are least bothered about Abbakka and have never raised their voice demanding the government to erect a statue of Abbakka,” she said.

Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar said that it was a long pending dream of the Academy to have its own office. “We have a rented office in MCC building. Every month we get a notice from the MCC asking us to pay the pending dues,” he said.

He said that the building would come up in 51 cents land at a cost of Rs 4.8 crore. The first floor will be dedicated to the Academy office, second floor will be for Sabha Bhavana and third floor will have space to develop a library and rooms to accommodate guests.

In his presidential address, Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat said that he would sanction Rs 10 lakh for the Tulu Bhavana from the MLA fund.

Mandya, July 30: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has done a commendable job in tackling the Covid-19 situation and floods and that the question of changing the leadership does not arise.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 5,503 new cases of Covid-19 and 92 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 1,12,504 and the death toll to 2,147.

Speaking to reporters here, Kateel said, "Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi has gone to Delhi to discuss the projects sanctioned to state with the central minister. There is no need to read too much into it."

Replying to a query on graft charges against the BSY government by the Congress, Kateel said, "Congress national president, state unit president are out on bail in graft cases . Why did a Congress leader who calls himself a bande (rock) has approached court seeking stay on CBI probe? Before making any allegations against the government, they should think about 'irregularities' in Indira Canteen and housing schemes," he charged.

Instead of instilling confidence and hope among the people in these testing times, the Congress is unnecessarily creating fear with petty politics, he told reporters in Shravanabelagola, Hassan district.

"The Yediyurappa-led BJP government is working day and night to tackle the Covid-19. Similarly, several non-governmental organisations have joined hands with the government in the fight against the virus. But, the Congress is only creating confusion by issuing baseless statements," Kateel said.

Mangaluru, July 13: A week-long lockdown will be imposed in Dakshina Kannada from the night of July 15, according to district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The decision was taken in a meeting of elected representatives in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. The DC is expected to issue guidelines for the lockdown soon. 

In a video message, Poojary said that during the video conference, chief minister B S Yediyurappa asked the administrations and elected representatives of the respective district to take a call on re-imposing lockdown to check the mounting coronavirus cases. 

“We have decided to impose a week-long lockdown from the night of July 15. Hence, people should buy all necessary things for a week before the beginning of lockdown,” he Mr Poojary.

New Delhi, Jul 22: Sir Philip Barton visited Bengaluru on Tuesday in the first of the series of virtual regional visits as the UK's new High Commissioner and called Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, business leaders, and startup community to pitch for new momentum in the already strong UK-Karnataka relationship.

During his virtual call, High Commissioner Barton got a 'real' taste of Bengaluru through a traditional Masala Dosa delivered to his residence in Delhi along with authentic south Indian filter coffee, which he relished over a chat with historian and commentator Ramachandra Guha. They discussed the unique UK-India "living bridge" across culture and cuisine, history and heritage, and sports and science.

Both Yeddyurappa and the British envoy restated their commitment to working together on the immediate challenges of Covid-19 and beyond.

Barton subsequently 'traveled' to Electronics City, where he met with a range of key business leaders to discuss deepening the UK-India tech partnership and opportunities for global investors in the UK.

Barton also met with a group of entrepreneurs, business founders and innovators, who were part of the first GoGlobal UK cohort to explore the dynamic UK market considered one of the best ecosystems for startups in the world. 

They had earlier attended a week-long boot-camp in London and Manchester in December 2019 that helped them bolster their business skills, build links with UK's thriving digital sector, and paved the way for future partnerships.

"I am delighted to make my first regional virtual visit to Bengaluru, the technology hub of India. My visit comes at a difficult time for everyone. So it is also a time when the excellent collaboration between the UK and Karnataka across technology and healthcare could not be important," Barton said.

"Making the most of those close links, and drawing on the great energy, innovation and entrepreneurship that Karnataka is famous for, will be central to ensuring we all recover from Covid-19 stronger than ever," he added.
