K J Shetty Kadandali award conferred on Steven Rego

Mangalore, October 4: The K. J. Shetty Kadandali Award was conferred on young journalist Steven Rego at a special awards ceremony organized by Yugapurusha and Vijaya Kalavidaru on the premises of Yugapurusha in Kinnigoli on last Sunday

Presiding over the event, Harikrishna Punaroor said that K. J. Shetty was a great journalist, social worker, and environmentalist and that this award has been instituted in his honor. Lauding Mr. Rego, he said that the award has become more valuable because it has been conferred on Mr. Rego.

Steven Rego, the sub editor of Vijaya Karnataka, said after receiving the award that awards such as these greatly encourage young journalists, adding that such awards are essential to encourage young journalists to achieve more in their careers.

Laxminarayana Asranna of Kateel delivered the benedictory address.

Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca of Sandesh Prathishtana Mangalore conferred the K. J. Shetty Kadandali Award on Mr. Steven Rego. Naresh Kerekadu read out the citation.

Kiran Manjanabailu, the president of the Udupi District Retired Journalists' Association; P. Sathish Rao of Rotary Club; Suragiri Vasu Shetty; Jagadish Shetty Kenchanakere; Salettoor Jairam Shetty; Sainath Shetty; Taranath Shetty Kadandali, the son of late K. J. Shetty; and Sharath Shetty, the president of Vijaya Kalavaidaru organized this programme.

Mangaluru, Feb 6: A 40-day old child with cardiac condition was shifted to Bengaluru’s Jayadev Hospital from Father Muller Hospital in Mangaluru through a green corridor traffic.

Hospital sources said the ambulance carrying the 40-day old patient was provided Green Corridor by police department throughout the way.

Saiful Azhman, who is just 40-days old has been diagnosed with heart-related ailment. Doctors at FMMC hospital provided basic treatment to Saiful and advised that he be taken to Jayadeva hospital for advanced treatment.

Mangaluru, June 5: A local businessman was hacked to death while two of his relatives suffered critical injuries in a broad daylight attack by a group of miscreants at Mulki on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Abdul Lateef (38). He was proprieter of Align Gold, Moodbidri. His wife is an advocate in Moodbidri. 

Abdul Lateef's father-in-law Muneer and latter's son Hayat suffered stab injuries. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru. 

The attack took place near the Vijaya Bank in Mulki. 

According to sources, a gang of miscreants stabbed all three. While Abudl Lateef succumbed to his injuries, the other two are responding to the treatment. 

Police have registered a case. Investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Escoms have been directed neither to penalise its customers nor go for disconnection if one fails to pay the bill. The relief is applicable till June. However, the entire bill will have to be paid at the end of three months.

The revised power tariff, which was to be announced on April 1, has also been deferred.

A similar three-month relief has been given on rentals for APMC and BBMP shops.
