ABVP anti-corruption rally culminates in city

Mangalore, October 5: The inter-district anti corruption rally of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parisad on Tuesday culminated in the city with a considerable number of students holding a demonstration.

The rally, which commenced on September 28, was one of the four anti-corruption rallies organised by ABVP in the State, and encompassed Shimoga and Udupi district apart from Dakshina Kannada.

The campaigners began their march from Karnataka Polytechnic Circle and converged at Kadri Park.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharma Prasad, a Syndicate member from the Kuvempu University, said due to the corrupt policies of the Union government an amount of Rs 4 lakh crore from Indians was lying in foreign banks.

“The governments have allowed a select few to exploit our natural resources and hoard their income in foreign banks”, he said and added: “If we bring back this money, people of the country will be relieved of payment of taxes for a long time”

The speakers also criticized the commercialization of the education in the country.

During the seven-day rally, the ABVP activists travelled more than a thousand kilo metres covering around 50 prominent colleges of above three districts.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: Karnataka government along with BBMP has asked project contractors, builders and developers in the city not to send their labourers to their native place and instead provide them with amenities like food and shelter in this lockdown period.

It was also warned with legal action would be taken against them if they violating the instructions from the government .

New Delhi, Jul 3: The aviation regulator DGCA said on Friday it was extending the suspension of scheduled international passenger flights in the country till July 31 but added that some international scheduled services on selected routes may be permitted on a case to case basis.

Scheduled international passenger flights were suspended in India on March 23 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Modifying its June 26 circular that stated that scheduled international passenger flights will remain suspended till July 15, 2020, the regulator stated on Friday it has decided to extend the deadline to July 31, 2020.

However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis,” said the circular by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Air India and other private domestic airlines have been operating unscheduled international repatriation flights under the Vande Bharat Mission, which was started on May 6 by the Central government.

India resumed scheduled domestic passenger flights on May 25, after a gap of two months.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: As the stage is set for the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple construction at Ayodhya on Wednesday, retired Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hegde has called for the promotion of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and respect for different faiths.

"It is a good idea to make that as an object of the temple so that there can be peace in the world," the former Solicitor General of India said when asked if the temple should be promoted as a symbol of national integration, and social and communal harmony.

Hegde said one of the most dangerous things for conflict today is religion. "In that background, there should be some effort from somebody or other to bring about peaceful coexistence, respecting each religion," the former Karnataka Lokayukta told PTI on Tuesday. "It is a good idea to start Bhumi Pujan as an indicator of that or foundation for developing harmony among various religions," he added.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya. It also directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5- acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.
