Chandrashekar Kambar to be honoured in Alva's Nudisiri

Mudubidire, October 4: Jnanpith awardee litterateur Chandrashekar Kambar will be given a warm felicitation during the eighth edition of 'Alva's Nudisiri', a Kannada cultural and literary fest to be organised by Alva's Education Foundation said Dr. M Mohan Alva, the chairman of the Foundation.

This year's Nudisiri convention will be conducted with central theme of 'Kannada Mannassu-Sangarsha Matthu Samarasya'. Veteran thinker and researcher Prof MK Kalaburgi would preside over the entire convention.

In the convention scheduled from November 11 to November 13, Kambar will be delivering valedictory speech. Also there will be a special lecture on the literary works of Chandrashekar Kambar.

It can be recalled that Kambar had presided over the third edition of Alva's Nudisiri held in 2006 with the theme of 'Kannada manassu prachalitha prashnegalu'.

Udupi, Jul 22: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Wednesday announced lifting of ban on movement of people and vehicles with immediate effect in the borders of Kerala which was banned during lockdown.

The announcement comes hours after Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that lockdown in Bengaluru and other parts of the state will not be extended any further, suggesting people should wear masks and maintain physical distancing strictly.

Mr Jagadeesh noted that although the seal down of the borders of the district would be lifted, checkposts on the border would be set up and urged people to enter the district only in case of emergency.

Hubli, Feb 17: A local court here on Monday sent three Kashmiri students who were arrested on charges of sedition to judicial custody till March 2.

They were arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans and posting a video of the same on social media, told police.

All three were taken into custody by the police on Sunday night and were produced before a local court on Monday.

Bengaluru, Jul 15: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D K Shivakumar on Tuesday alleged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa led state government of corruption and said it had not spared even beds and pillows meant for COVID-19 patients to make "corrupt" money.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Congress leader said BJP government will be exposed in the coming days.

"It is nauseating that @BSYBJP govt has not even spared the beds and pillows meant for CoVid patients to make corrupt money from. There are many such scams involving ministers. Evidences about them will be placed before people and the BJP Govt will be exposed in the coming days," he tweeted.

Cabinet minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday announced a complete lockdown in Karnataka's Dharwad area from 10 am on July 15 to 8 pm on July 24 in a bid to control the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

According to the State's health department, Karnataka has a total of 41,581 positive cases so far, including 24,572 active cases and 16,248 recoveries.

So far, 757 people have lost their lives to coronavirus in the State.
