Road funds diverted to other states: MP Nalin

Mangalore, October 6: Are states such as Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan paying the price for their alacrity in utilising and implementing Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)? Yes, feels MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. The Union ministry concerned is diverting funds allocated to such states to states such as Kerala, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh that are lagging in implementation of the scheme in an effort to help them catch up, he said.

Chairing the district vigilance and monitoring committee meeting of various centrally sponsored schemes here on Tuesday, Nalin said the Union government has not sanctioned funds to Karnataka under phase IX and X of PMGSY. A delegation of MPs from the state met Union minister for panchayat raj Jairam Ramesh in Delhi recently and apprised him of the problems faced on this account and Ramesh is aware of the situation, he pointed. During 2011-12, up to end of June 2011, a total of 138 road works were sanctioned and the length of road works involved in phase I to VIII (batch 11) is 533.56 km. Out of this, 124 road works totalling 508.22 km have been completed, executive engineer, PMGSY informed the meeting. Nalin said the minister, however, has given his consent to enable gram panchayats to carry out survey work for the future roads to be taken up under PMGSY. On the issue of writing a letter to Mangalore SEZ authorities to speedily complete the PMGSY road from Thokur railway gate up to MRPL in Mangalore taluk, Nalin told the engineer that non-completion of the road is causing inconvenience to people of the area.

"If you had informed me beforehand about the status of the road, we could have summoned MSEZ authorities and directed them to take corrective steps and get the work expedited," he noted. Shivarame Gowda, deputy secretary, zilla panchayat directed executive officers of taluk panchayats to ensure completion of Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendras in all 203 gram panchayats of the district before March 2012. The official also instructed the executive officers to pay due attention to expediting individual works under MGNREG scheme and meet stipulated targets. "There should be no financial spill over during the next fiscal," he noted.

Domestic flight service to resume at Mangaluru Airport from May 25

Mangaluru, May 23: Domestic flight services will resume from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) from May 25 as per the instructions of Union Civil Aviation Ministry. Six Indigo and SpiceJet flights will be operated from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai.

Air-India is yet to finalise its schedule, airport sources said. Three Indigo flights will depart from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai and three flights of SpiceJet will leave for Bengaluru and Mumbai on May 25.

SpiceJet flight will take off from Bengaluru to Mangaluru at 8.30 am and7 pm while Indigo will take off from Mangaluru to Bengaluru at 5.55 pm. SpiceJet flight will take off from Mangaluru at 10.20 am and 9.35 pm while Indigo will depart at 7.30 pm.

From Mumbai, Spice Jet flight will take off at 7.05 am and Indigo at 9.30 am. The Mangaluru-Mumbai SpiceJet flight will take off at 9.05 am and Indigo at 11.40 am. Indigo flight will depart from Chennai to Mangaluru at 5.45 pm and from Mangaluru to Chennai at 8.05 am.

Once again Bengaluru witnesses massive protest against CAA, NRC, NPR

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Karnataka CM inaugurates 4 buses converted into COVID-19 testing facilities in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 11: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday inaugurated four buses that have been converted into COVID-19 testing facilities in Bengaluru.

State Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka and Member of Parliament from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya were also present.

"The mobile fever clinic bus initiative was taken by Sanchit Gaurav, Founder and CEO of Housejoy, in association with the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), MP Tejaswi Surya, other partners, to increase the number of COVID tests across Bengaluru and win the fight against the virus," said KSRTC in a statement.

The bus is divided into two zones with beds and a consultation area, maintaining proper hygiene conditions.

The KSRTC said there will be four teams with four mobile bus clinics across Bengaluru - each team comprising of one doctor, three nurses and one lab technician with several volunteers facilitating the process.

The teams will be starting from red zones and will try to screen the maximum number of residents from these zones for symptoms and quarantine those who test positive.

"The testing process will start by providing free glucose, blood pressure test and COVID-19 symptoms consultation for all residents," KSRTC added.

If anyone showcases any COVID-19 symptoms, their swab will be collected immediately for testing by Biognosys Technologies (ICMR certified).

Further, the information will be provided to the government and place the person under quarantine.

"KSRTC has already initiated this mobile fever clinic buses with the association of the District Administration in Mysuru, Mandya, Tumkur, Mangaluru, Bagalkote, Hubli, Belagavi, Bengaluru and Raichur," it said.

According to the KSRTC on April 25, the cost of this clinic construction on a bus is Rs 50,000.
