Bhatkal, October 10: Two persons were arrested by Bhatkal police on Sunday on charges of illegal cattle transportation.
The accused have been identified as Ibrahim Saab Attar (30), from Alnavar Dharwad and Zabiullah (38) from Haveri.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police led by PSI Naveen Kunar Jogi waylaid a mini lorry near the Shirali check post in Bhatkal taluk and seized 17 oxen after arresting the duo.
Mangaluru, May 25: D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilizer, has once again written to the Ministry of External Affairs urging to take steps to operate more repatriation flights from Gulf countries to Karnataka.
In his second letter in 10 days addressed to Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Union Minister for External Affairs, expressed regret over not giving due priority for the repatriation of Kannadigas in the middle east during the extended second phase of Vande Bharat Mission.
"I shall be grateful if you could personally intervene and instuct the concerned in arranging flights to Mangaluru and Bengaluru from Gulf countries in existing schedule itself," Mr Gowda urged Mr Jayashankar.

Bengaluru, April 6: The total number of positive cases in Karnataka climbed to 163 after 12 more cases were reported, state government officials said on Monday.
Out of the 12 new cases, three of them have a history of travelling to Delhi.
The tally includes four deaths and 18 people have recovered and discharged.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India crossed the 4,000 mark, mounting to 4,067, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.
