Mangalore, October 11: Lashing out at Karnataka Minister for Energy Shobha Karandlaje for acute power shortage in the state, Mangalore MLA UT Khader demanded her resignation.

Addressing the media persons at Congress Office on Monday, he said the Minister should quit from her post or give sufficient power to the State.

Holding the state government responsible for severe power shortage, he said the state government is busy in blaming the Central government for not supplying adequate power through the central grid.

He said, “It is not possible for the centre to give excess power as and when the state asks. State government should give details on how many megawatts of power is being produced in the state in the last 3.5 years”.

BJP government had signed an agreement with the Chattisgarh government to produce power. What happened to the agreement? Where has this project proceeded? he questioned.

The State government has failed to maintain the thermal power stations. It is their responsibility to ensure that there is adequate supply of coal and this is where they have failed, he said. He also suggested that the government should not sell power to other states unless our state has enough power supply.

Speaking on UPCL being shut down for maintenance, Khader said that he suspects that this move is to pressurize the government and people in acquiring permission to start the second power plant in Nandikur.
