Greater Talacauvery' project opposed

Mangalore, October 12: Malenadu Janti Kriya Samithi has opposed 'The Greater Talacauvery,' 'Elephant Corridor' and 'Bio diversity Centre' projects which are likely to come up in Western Ghats.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, Malenadu Janti Kriya SamithiCommittee President Pradeep Kumar K L said The Greater Talacauvery project is nothing but interlinking of all the protected areas namely Brahmagiri, Talacauvery, Pushpagiri sanctuaries and all other reserve forests which come under it.

“The interlinking of all the protected areas will pose threat to the existence of the 120 revenue villages in five districts and 14 taluks. If the projects are implemented, then community rights would be taken away from the traditional dwellers. The interlinking of all the reserve forests would cover 8,000 sq mts. Jamma, Baane, Kaana, Baana rights would be taken away by the government. The community rights have been guaranteed to the tribals residing in the forest by the Constitution. The project will also affect the culture and traditional of these tribals who would be displaced from their original habitat,” he said.

“In the name of development 50 to 70 small and major dams have been constructed across Kempuhole, Addahole and Gundya projects and several age old trees have been cut. The revenue villages which are situated adjacent to forests in Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Sullia, Puttur, Belthangady, Sakleshpura, Aloor, Sringeri, N R Pura, Udupi, Karkala, Kundapura, Theerthahalli, Soraba, Sirsi, Dandeli, Haliyala would be affected with the proposed project,” he opined .

He added that the project swould curtail the powers of the people to own arms under Arms Rights Act.

“In the name of promotion of tourism and development, the government is giving permission to restaurants, cottages and resorts inside the reserve forest. However, it is not allowing the traditional dwellers to continue to live peacefully,” he said.

Mangaluru, May 31: Karnataka BJP president MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has claimed that there has been no differences of opinion within the state BJP.

"The BJP-led government will complete its term under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa," Kateel told media persons in the city on Saturday.

“A few MLAs had met and discussed the developments in North Karnataka. There is nothing wrong in discussing development keeping in mind the party's interests.”

Indiscipline within the party will not be tolerated. Strict action will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities by the party High Command, he warned.

The government, led by Yediyurappa, has carried out good works in the state. All the MLAs are supporting the chief minister. All the MLAs are in contact with me, claimed Kateel.

Mangaluru, May 13: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today reported a fresh covid-19 positive case. According to sources, this case also linked to Manglauru’s First Neuro Hospital, which has emerged as the corona hub of coastal Karnataka.

Health and Family Welfare department in its today’s bulletin revealed that a 38-year-old woman from Darandabagilu near Someshwara in Mangaluru taluk of Dakshina Kannada was tested coronavirus positive.

It is said that the woman was in touch with P-507, an octogenarian, who was being treated for neurological issues at First Neuro Hospital.

With this the total number of coronavirus positive cases reported in Dakshina Kannada rose to 34. Among them only 26 are residents of Dakshina Kannada. Four are from Kasaragod, three from Udupi and one from Bhatkal.

Among 34, currently there only 17 active cases. The condition of two among them is said to be critical.

Mangaluru, Jan 13: Supporting former state chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy who released a "CD on the December 19 Mangaluru violence", Dakshina Kannada party unit president Mohammed Kunhi on Monday demanded a probe into the violence.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who released 35 video clips related to the violence, had demanded the suspension of the Police Commissioner and also sought a house committee to probe the incident.

Addressing media personnel here, Kunhi questioned, "If the police department did not commit any mistake why is the state government looking worried about the CDs released by Kumaraswamy?"
