Yeddyurapa episode not to affect Jan Chetna Yatra: Eshwarappa

Mangalore, October 15: The arrest warrant issued against former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is credited with installing the Bhartiya Janata Party's first government in South India, will not affect the Jan Chetna Yatra of senior BJP leader L K Advani that will arrive in state on October 30, said KS Eshwarappa.

The state BJP president, who visited the city on Saturday to inspect the on-going preparations for the much publicised Yatra, addressing the media persons at the press club here, said that people of the coast are eagerly waiting to join the all India Yatra against corrupt policies of union government.

Mr Eshwarappa said that the former deputy prime minister of India, would address thousands of gathering at Nehru Maidan at 11 am on October 31.

After Mangalore, Mr Advani will reach Udupi to address a rally at 2 pm. He will also be addressing public meetings in Honnavara and Ankola on the same day, he said.

The Yatra will enter Karnataka from the Kerala border town of Kasargod. As per the itinerary, Advani will fly from Kochi to Bangalore on October 30 evening. Following a press conference at 4 pm, he will address a public meeting at 5 pm at National College Grounds, Basavanagudi. He is expected to reach Mangalore Airport at 9 am on October 31.

“A rousing welcome is awaited for the party veteran in the city. At least 50, 000 people are expected to participate at the public meet in Nehrur Maidan”, said Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who is the convenor of the Yatra in Karnataka.

During the Yatra, the party workers will distribute booklets highlighting the development works taken up by the BJP government. BJP National General Secretary H N Ananthkumar would accompany Advani in the yatra, said Mr Kateel.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: PVR Cinemas on Friday launched its five-screen multiplex in here, augmenting its presence in Karnataka across 15 properties to 103 screens and to 46 properties and 286 screens in southern India.

With this opening, PVR consolidates its growth momentum in the current financial year 2019-20, so far opening 83 screens in the year and bringing its portfolio to 841 screens at 176 properties in 71 cities.

"We feel proud to cross the 100 screens milestone in the state of Karnataka at the very beginning of the year," said Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli.

"Southern India has a strong market with significant growth potential. In Bengaluru, we have introduced some of our best formats and offerings owing to the nature of preferences by our customers," he said in a statement.

Pramod Arora, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer at PVR Ltd, said the company will continue to enhance the consumer experience through innovation and set new benchmarks in the Indian multiplex industry.

PVR is the largest and the most premium film exhibition company in India, serving over 100 million patrons annually.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: About 1,500 people from Karnataka might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 8 to 20. Of these, the State has been able to trace 800 people.
 
Of the 800 persons, 143 people have been found to be symptomatic.
 
Mr Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), in a statement here on Thursday said that the Centre had sent the list of 1,500 people to the State.
 
“We cannot say if all these have attended the congregation. Some of them may have attended and some may be the contacts of those who have attended. We have been able to trace 800 from the list and samples of 143 symptomatic persons have been sent for tests."

Mangaluru, Feb 28: BJP Corporator in Mangaluru's ward number 46 (Cantonment), Divakar, has been elected as the Mayor of the city on Friday. While Janaki aka Vedavathi, Corporator of ward number 9 (Kulai), has been elected as the Deputy Mayor.

Divakar secured 46 votes including that of MLAs D Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Y Bharath Shetty.

Regional Commissioner V Yashwanth conducted the election at the Council Hall of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).

Two nominations were filed for the post of Mayor. Congress had fielded Keshav, representing ward 37 (Maroli) for the post of Mayor. Keshav secured 15 votes including that of MLC Ivan D'Souza.

Congress had fielded Zeenath Samshuddin of ward number 44 (Bunder) for the post of Deputy Mayor and secured 17 votes.

Two Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) corporators remained neutral for the post of Mayor while they supported the candidature of Zeenath Samshuddin of Congress for the Deputy Mayor post. Janaki aka Vedavathi of the BJP secured 46 votes.

The BJP had swept the elections to the 60-member council held on November 12 by winning 44 wards, while the Congress won 14 wards. Social Democratic Party of India won two seats.

Election to the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor was conducted as per the reservation roaster for the 21st term dated September 3, 2018. Accordingly, the Mayor's post was reserved for candidate from BCM ‘A’ category while that of Deputy Mayor for woman general.
