Annual Nerche of Jalal Masthan begins

Mangalore, October 17: The 85th annual Nerche celebrations of Hazrath Sheikuna Muhammed Maula Jalal Masthan Al Bhukhari was commenced at Masjid Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid, Bunder here on Sunday.

Sayyed Basheer Ali Shihab Thangal inaugurated five-day ceremony, which will conclude on October 20, and offered dua.

Haji Y Abdullah Kunhi, President of Zeenath Baksh Masjid presided over the inaugural ceremony.

Haji Abdul Khader Musliyar, Paivalike, Haji Aboobakar, the Qazi of Athradi, Haji Y Mohammed Kunhi, Member Karnataka State Wakf Committee, Haji K S Mohammed Masood, former MLC and President Muslim Central Committee, DK and Udupi, Haji Usman, President, DK Wakf Advisory Committee were present as guests.

Religious speeches by Sunni scholars have been arranged in the first four days of the Nerche celebrations from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

Separate seating arrangements have been made for women.

The valedictory function will be held on October 20 at 8:30 pm under the presidentship of Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar. V Muhammad Musliyar Chappara Padavu will be the guest of honour. The masjid committee has requested devotees to put their offerings into offering boxes or send it to its office.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The test report of the man from Uppoor in Udupi district, who committed suicide fearing he had contracted coronavirus infection, has returned negative for the virus.

Health department officials in Udupi said the post- mortem test report had shown that he did not have the virus infection and asked the people in the area not to panic.

Gopalakrishna Madivala (56), had hanged himself on Wednesday suspecting he had the disease, leaving a death note to family members asking them to stay safe.

Udupi, Jun 18: Two youths lost their lives in a ghastly road mishap involving a vegetable-laden mini truck near Santhekatte in Udupi today. 

The deceased have been identified as Dinesh (35) and Manjunath (21), both hailed from Balkur village in Kundapur taluk.

The accident took place at around 7 a.m. when the mini truck was carrying vegetables from Kundapur to Udupi. 

According to sources, Dinesh, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and rammed into a pole next to the national highway. 

Both Dinesh and his assistant Manjunath suffered head injuries in the accident. They were rushed to Ajjarkad district hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

Mangaluru, May 6: Three more coronavirus positive cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada district. 

According to fresh bulletin of health and family welfare department, an 11-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman from Boloor in Mangaluru and a 16-year-old girl from Bantwal tested positive for the covid-19. 

All of them are undergoing treatment at Wenlock Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable. 

With this the total number of cases in the district reached 28 including 22 residents of Dakshina Kannada, 4 from Kasaragod, 1 from Udupi and 1 from Uttara Kannada.
