Panchayath development officers stage dharna against harassment

Udupi, October 20: Protesting against the torture and high handedness of representatives of the people, over 55 PDOs under the banner of Pachayath Development Officers' Welfare Association, Udupi district, staged a demonstration infront of the Zilla Panchayath Office, here on Wednesday.

Agitators submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Zilla Panchayath CEO Prabhakar Sharma. In the memorandum they said in Udupi district too, PDOs of Hebri, Hejamady, Hirgana, Mundkur, Kokkarne, Badanidiyoor, Shirva, Hattiyangadi and Kadekar had been frequently tortured and all of them are women PDOs.Agitators submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Zilla Panchayath CEO Prabhakar Sharma. ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma, after receiving the memorandum said that they palnning to hold a training for PDOs and GP Presidents on handling the issues. He said, PDOs can share some of the crucial issues affecting the exercising op their duties. Mangaluru, May 7: Thousands of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, led by Congress leader Mithun Rai, staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding that they be allowed to return to their native places.

The workers started a protest demonstration opposite Mangaluru City Corporation office in the city. Police dispersed the crowd for violating social distancing norms.

The workers said they have nowhere to go and nothing to eat. Therefore, they are demanding to be sent back to their states. They however, had crowded together without following the social distance norm. 

In the wake of protest, prohibitory orders under section 144(3) were imposed in Dakshina Kannada district between 7pm and 7 am till May 17 to check the spread of Covid-19.

Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday announced further relief package to the lockdown affected people.

Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said about Rs 500 crore would be earmarked to distribute to over 10 lakh farmers, who had grown Jowar and also cash compensation to the shepherds who would lose sheep and goats due to natural disasters.

While commending the efforts of the ASHA workers, who are remained in the frontline in fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister said an additional Rs 3000 would be remitted to their bank accounts as an incentive.

The Chief minister had announced Rs 1610 crore cash relief package to benefit the auto drivers, barbers and washermen, last week.

He had also announced relief package to the farmers, and migrant workers and construction workers.

Replying to questions, he denied that by bringing amendment to the APMC Act, farmers would be suffered.

Brushing aside the criticism over an ordinance brought to the APMC Act by the Opposition Congress and the JD(S), the Chief Minister said “Amendment had been brought after taking care that farmers interests will not be adversely affected”.

Udupi, Jul 20: Five COVID Day Care Centres have been opened here on Monday with combined 870 bed for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients.

The Centres are set up at Karkala (1), Udupi (3) and Kundapura (1). Presently more than 100 patients are being treated in these Centres.

These Centres have been opened in the wake of high incidences of Covid-19 cases in the district. They are set up for asymptomatic patients who do not wish to be treated at home.
