Abhivyakta-2011: Youth fest underway in city

Mangalore, October 22: A three day district level youth fest is being organised under the joint auspices of Directorate of State Educational Research and Training, District Institute of Educational Training and Government Education Training Centre for Women in the city.

Being held under the slogan 'Abhivyakta-2011' the fest was inaugurated on Friday evening on the premises of Government Education Training Centre for Women, Balmatta, by Sudhakar Shetty, DGM, Vijaya Bank Regional Office, Mangalore.

Delivering the presidential address at the inaugural session, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik said that the purpose of education should be 'man-making' and nation-building as said by Swami Vivekananda. “Education should not be confined for ranks and certificates”, he added.

He also quoted author Robin Sharma, who stated the purpose of Education is 'enlightenment'.

Appreciating the D Ed Students for choosing teaching field, Mr. Karnik said that most of the people today do not wish to enter into the fields like military, politics or teaching as the two most favourite fields of new generation are medical and engineering.

He said that in teaching profession, people would get happiness and peace.

However, he pointed out there are problems in teaching field too, as there are only four lakh teachers for over one crore and 14 lakh students of various classes across Karnataka.

He advised: “With a mission that 'little for self and everything for society' and loving a student as your own child, you can be a good teacher.” To become an effective teacher one has to go ahead with research along with teaching, he added.

DK Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Former President of Mangalore Urban Development Authority K Thejomaya were present among others.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The second day of a total clampdown by Dakshin Kannada district had no impact as panic-stricken people rushed to buy essential commodities in markets in the City on Sunday without caring for Social distance to be maintained.

Since the crowd swell within minutes the police were forced to order the shops forcibly as otherwise, it might have led to spread of dreaded killer Coronavirus COVID-19.

The rise in Covid-19 cases in Dakshina Kannada and the neighbouring Kasargod district had forced the district administration to declare on total bandh on Saturday and Sunday but in vain.

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, on Wednesday announced that the District Administration will organise the Karavali Utsava from January 10-19 at Karavali Utsava Maidaan here in the city.

The minister was addressing a press conference on Wednesday morning at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He informed that a rally will march from Nehru Maidaan to Karavali Utsava Maidaan on January 10 to officially mark the inauguration of the utsava. 
The rally will be flagged off by Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

Beach Utsava and Kite Festival will be organised at the Panambur beach on January 17, 18 and 19 as a part of Karavali Utsava.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru Director CS Patil said that good rainfall is expected in few districts during next five days.

The districts likely to receive rainfall include Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu. All these districts had received deficit rainfall till date from June 1.

"From June 1 to till date Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts received deficit rainfall. However, there is an expectation of good rainfall in these districts in next 5 days," said CS Patil.

"Coastal districts are very likely to experience light to moderate to widespread rainfall activity during the next five days," he added.
