Beautician caught eight months after stealing jewellery

Mangalore, October 24: Nearly eight months after she allegedly stole a bag containing jewelleries from a customer at City Centre mall, a city based beautician was arrested by police.

The accused has been identified as Anita D'Souza, a 30 year-old resident of Valencia and a beautician by profession. Her husband lives abroad.

It is said that D'Souza had stolen the bag of a customer in the shopping mall, after diverting his attention. A case was registered at Mangalore north police station in this connection.

D'Souza had later sold the gold jewelleries worth Rs 3.5 lakh found inside the stolen bag. However, she had kept aside a mobile phone which was also inside the bag, without using it for a long time.

When she dared to use the same mobile phone without changing the SIM card recently, a team of city police tracked her down successfully on Saturday. She was produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody till November 5.

Covid-19: Karnataka police raids 120 shops black marketing food grains

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Police on Wednesday conducted surprise raids at nearly 120 shops in Bengaluru following complaints of black marketing and sale of foodgrains above the MRP rate.

Sandip Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru in a tweet said that action has been initiated against these shopkeepers.

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Help poor, needy by not cutting their salaries: Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, Apr 4: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has appealed to employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants and drivers who are unable to attend work due to the current lockdown situation in the country.

He said compassionate gesture of employers will support the poor and needy.

"I request all the employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants, drivers etc., who are not able to work due to social distancing. Your compassionate gesture will support the poor and needy to overcome this hard time. FightBackKarnataka CoronavirusPandemic," the Chief Minister said in a tweet.

Bear Grylls, Rajinikanth arrive in Bandipur to shoot 'Man vs Wild' episode

Bandipur, Jan 28: British adventurer Bear Grylls and superstar Rajinikanth arrived at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve and National Park in Karnataka on Tuesday for shooting a special episode of the show 'Man vs Wild'.

The actor arrived at the location dressed in comfortable sporty clothes. Donning a dark blue jacket and grey track pants, Rajinikanth was also carrying a cross-body sling bag.

Videos and photographs of Rajinikanth arriving at a helipad were shared widely on social media.

Reports say that an agreement was signed between the Karnataka Forest Department represented by the Field Director of Bandipur and Banijay Group, Seventaurus Entertainment Studio Private Ltd, Mumbai for shooting of the documentary in December 2019. The team was also allowed to do a recce from December 27th to 29th as per the agreement, a report said.

The shooting has been permitted for six hours. "Permission for the shooting has been given for Sultan Batteri highway and ranges of Mulleholle, Maddur and Kalkere ranges. They will be shooting in non-tourist zones. If permission was given for the shooting of Wild Karnataka, then this can also be permitted. Also, no tourist or regular forest patrolling activities will be affected. The shooting will be done under special forest protection and no one will be aware of the locations," a forest official was quoted as saying in another news report.

Earlier in 2019, Grylls shot an episode of the show with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Grylls is also back with the latest edition of his National Geographic show ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls’, where actors such as Channing Tatum, Brie Larson, Joel McHale, Cara Delevingne, Rob Riggle, Armie Hammer and Dave Bautista take on adventurous challenges in remote wilderness.
