Udupi, October 24: The Congress has questioned as to what credibility the BJP has to take out 'Janachethana Yathra'.

“At a time when the BJP led State government is caught in one or the other scam how can BJP leader L K Advani take out a Yathra against corruption,” said AICC Secretary Shantharam Nayak.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, he said that crores of rupees were spent on similar yathras in the past. However, the BJP has failed to provide any account on the expenditure of the yathra till today.

'Give accounts'

He urged Advani to provide accounts of the yathra after completing the yathra.

“The BJP is losing its popularity in the State. The BJP has been demanding to bring back black money stashed abroad. In reality, it was one of the BJP leaders who had deposited huge amount in the Swiss Bank. Unfortunately, the leader is no more,” he said.

“The BJP President Nithin Gadkari acts the way RSS wants him to act. Hence, the BJP does not have any control over him,” he said.

“The image of the State has been spoiled by the former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. If given a chance, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Nithin Gadkari would have denotified even Taj Mahal,” he ridiculed adding that Team Anna has no respect for the Constitution. The Jan Lokpal Bill will not help any commonman, Nayak said.

Ready for polls

He said the Congress is ready to face the forthcoming Udupi-Chikmagalur by-election.

“We have held meetings in Udupi, Kaup, Karkala and Kundapura to discuss on the by-election. However, we have not taken any decision on the candidate.” Former ministers Jayaprakash Hegde, Vasanth Kumar Salian were present.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Doctors at Fortis Hospital, here on Friday, successfully treated a 97-year-old patient who suffered an embolic stroke due to calcified stenosis (narrowing of an artery resulting in restriction of blood flow).

In a release, the Hospital authorities stated that the team of doctors led by Dr Rajpal Singh, Director and Interventional Cardiologist, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore successfully conducted Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS) to increase the blood flow in the blocked areas which had resulted in stroke following stringent safety protocols and ensuring proper segregation of COVID and Non-COVID patients at the hospital.

Carotid arteries serve as the main channels which supply the blood flow to the brain and facial structures. Any significant narrowing in these arteries can cause a brain stroke, a mini-stroke, headache, and neurological symptoms.

Mangaluru, May 26: In the wake of mounting case of covid-19 in the coastal Karnataka, the police department has decided to sanitise the police stations in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The superintendents of police in both the districts have been instructed to take necessary steps for sanitisation of stations in a phased manner, according to Devajyoti Ray, inspector-general of police (Western Range).

Meanwhile, the top cops of Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru that forms part of the Western Range have been asked to take a call on doing so. “Hebri police station in Udupi was sanitised as part of this process and not because of any positive case emerging from staff there,” he said.

Allaying fears over stations being sealed down over positive case among station staff, Karnataka police chief Praveen Sood said this is a temporary measure and stations do not become non-functional.

“It is just that, for a mandated period police station will function from different premise when the station is being sanitised,” he said.

Noting that policemen are quarantined as precautionary measure, he said additional staff can be drafted from other stations or districts if need for it arises.
