Five deaths in rain related incidents in three days

Mangalore/Udupi, October 27: At least five people were killed and several others injured due to rain related incidents in undivided Dakshina Kannada district in past three days.

While four persons lost their lives after being struck by lightning, a youth was electrocuted to death after he came in contact with an open wire lying on the road.

In Bajpe surroundings, two people were killed after they were struck by lightning on Tuesday. They were identified as Nonaiah (20) and Ganesh (37), two neighboring houses at Bangalemane in Swamipadavu near here.



The tragedy occurred when the duo was walking towards Bajpe town through Rajapalke Road around 7:00 pm.

Due to the lightning strike, Ganesh sustained burn injuries on his chest. Both the victims, who were lying on the road, were rushed to a hospital in Mangalore through 108 vehicle. However, they succumb to the injuries.

Nonaiah was a Yakshagana artiste and was known for his feminine roles in Sunkadakatte Mela since past three years. He was the youngest among six children of late Krishna Gowda and Girija couple.

Ganesh was the only son of Rukkayya Gowda and Late Dhombi couple. He was survived by his wife Mohini, and two sons – 6-year-old Suresh and 2-year-old Gautham.

Mulku-Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain and other local leaders visited the victims' houses and consoled their family members.

Mangaluru, Jul 7: The residents of Bangle Gudde, Mathadagudde area in Gurupura Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where two teen aged children were buried alive, were shifted to safer places.

District officials said on Tuesday that the residents have been provided temporary shelter in Gurpur school, PU college, and hostels, while few others were shifted to Ashraya centers. Total 40 houses out of 180 houses in this area located in the red zone were damaged due to heavy rain.

If the residents want to stay in the rented house, the revenue department is ready to pay a sum of Rs 2,500 towards rent, official sources said.

Bengaluru, May 12: About 101 labourers bound for Rajasthan from Bengaluru in a goods truck were detained near a border Checkpost at Hirebagewadi village in Belagavi taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway and have been sent into institutional quarantine on Tuesday.

Police said that the Labourers comprising of men, women and children had been travelling towards Rajasthan in a goods truck without permission from Karnataka and even from their home State Rajasthan.

In the morning hours, police and other department personnel manning the check post near...check post near Hirebagewadi detained them.

Bengaluru, Jan 18: The searches by income-tax officials at the residence of south Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna at Virajpet in Kodagu district were concluded on Friday.

The searches, conducted since Thursday by sleuths from Bengaluru, were concluded on Friday morning, the family said.

Speaking to reporters outside the house, the actress's mother Suman said: "We all cooperated with the officials since Thursday. The officials asked some questions which we answered properly."

Rashmika, who was not at the residence when the I-T officials arrived, joined them on Thursday night, she added.

According to sources, IT officials from Bengaluru who arrived in three cars on Thursday verified documents pertaining to properties, bank accounts and investments.

Rashmika has acted in several Kannada and Telugu movies. Her recent film 'Sarileru Neekevvaru' opposite popular Telugu actor Mahesh Babu is in the theatres now.
