Mangalore, October 28: Panambur beach which otherwise echoes innocent laughters, silent walks and waves kissing the shores, on Thursday echoed vedic chants as Jecintha Essling Wintzer (37), a native of Bong Town in Liberia and Wolfram Essling Wintzer (37) of Moers city in Germany entered wedlock here.

The two entered the new phase of their life in a typical Hindu traditional wedding wherein the groom tied the 'Mangalsutra' around the bride's neck and the two walked the seven steps of marriage-'Sapthapadi' uttering the seven oaths of togetherness in front of the 'Agnikunda' during the auspicious 'Godhooli lagna'.

When the tunes of the percussions penetrated the air, the roaring ocean too seemed celebrating the union of the couple who had been in love for the last 10 years.

Hundreds of tourists who thronged at Panambur beach from various locations to enjoy their holiday had a surprise wedding to attend in their loose track suits and T-Shirts.

Jecintha and Wolfram are archaelogists and the two had supposedly decided to culminate their courtship into marriage right on their first date. While the two were committed to enter wedlock, the only thing they had decided to leave it to destiny was the date of their wedding.

The close acquaintance of the couple, Dr Anjanadevi and Harish Parala, the couple hailing from Dakshina Kannada but settled in Germany suggested Jecintha and Wolfram to marry in Hindu tradition. Taking the suggestion seriously, the two came down to India and gave shape to the plan.

“The very idea of Indian marriages is very fascinating. It is full of colours and flavours. I was excited about the plan when my friends Anjana and Harish told me about Indian marriages. Hence, we decided to marry according to Hindu tradition,” Wolfram said.

Though Wolfram had never seen any Indian wedding in the past, he opted to directly experience it himself.

“It is something very nice and I love to be a part of the beautiful culture of this land,” said Jecintha.

In fact, the couple had registered their marriage in Germany on October 8. A total of 30 people, including the couple's parents, relatives and friends from Germany and Australia were present to solemnise the traditional wedding.

Kalaburgi, May 27: Karnataka's Kalaburgi district recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, as per information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In light of the increasing mercury levels, people here were seen consuming sugarcane juice and cold drinks to beat the heat. Animals and birds could also be seen searching for water for relief from the scorching sun.

Locals of the area requested the district administration to take necessary actions such as spraying water on roads, in order to bring down the temperatures.

"We are facing huge heat waves in this district from the past two days, and even the temperature is around 44 to 45 degrees on a daily basis. So, it is a very alarming situation in Kalaburgi. When we move around the city, we are unable to find water and fresh fruit juice, and even if fresh juice is available, we are afraid of getting infected by COVID-19," said one local.

"If we carry cold water, it gets warm within half an hour, and gets unfit for drinking, and it is tough for us. I request the district administration to look into this matter and do the needful such as spraying water on the roads, etc. for slightest relief," he added.

Kalaburagi, Apr 9: An FIR has been lodged against the management and staff of Bahamani Super Speciality Hospital here in Kalaburagi allegedly for not following procedures meant to deal with COVID-19 and hiding details of patients with coronavirus symptoms, said District Deputy Commissioner Sharath B on Wednesday.

The district family welfare department official and nodal officer of KPME Kalaburagi took cognisance of the reports that the private hospitals in the district are not informing the government about patients having COVID-19 symptoms and they are only reporting about such cases at the last moment.

"It has come to our light that some private hospitals in Kalaburagi city are hiding information about the patients who are having COVID-19 like symptoms and these cases are not being reported on time to us," said the District Deputy Commissioner.

"We verified the records of these hospitals and it is clear now that they are revealing the serious cases in the last moment when the treatment has not given any help to patients. Only then such cases are bringing to ESI hospital in Kalaburagi. We have taken steps to quarantine the entire staff member of Bahamani hospital. We have taken legal steps against them for non-compliance of the orders issued to them and for not reporting this matter to us at the earliest stage," he said.

A case has been registered under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 column 51, 58 and sections 269 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

He further said that two new cases were reported positive on April 8 and one person has succumbed to the infection because he was having a severe respiratory infection.
He appealed to everyone to strictly follow lockdown restrictions and not violate Section 144 at any cost.

Speaking about the attacks on Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and Anganwadi workers, who were given a task to collect travel details of locals in view of coronavirus crisis, Sharath said: "Some of the health workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, who have been given a task to going from door to door to verify health status were troubled unnecessarily, saying that they have come to collect data for NRC and NPR."

"They are doing a survey on behalf of the district administration as they have to gather travelling information so that a person can be quarantined to contain COVID-19 spread. There has been an attack, a case has been registered in this regard," he said.
