Manjeshwar, October 28: The two localites, who among the 60 rescued voyagers on board an Iranian flagged ship, which sank in the Persian Gulf last week, have returned to their respective homes on Wednesday with sound health.

“We saw death very closely, as we lost our 13 fellows on board, to whom we would never meet. The grace of almighty God and prayers of our parents saved us”, said Mohammed Haneef (35) and Avinash (25) after uniting with their family members.

While Avinash, son of Kumar and Shyamala couple from Hosangadi Koppal, reached home in the morning, Haneef son of AbdullaH Kunhi and Rukkiya couple from Uppala Peringady united with his family members in the evening.

The duo had started their career on board the sunken ship 'Syntek' as assistant cooks just four months ago.

“During the tragedy I was offering Namaz. I witnessed the death in the sea before my own eyes. The life jacket provided by an Australian on time helped me survive”, said Haneef, according to whom, the strong winds, which had begun to blow at 45km/hr speed, were the reason for tragedy.

Avinash said that he was preparing food in basement of the ship when it began to sink.

“Within eight minutes the ship was completely submerged”, said Avinash, recalling the most fearful moment of his life. He said that he managed to escape through a life raft and was picked up by a fishing boat which came that way two hours later.

Both of them had reached the shore around 8:30 pm, i.e. nearly three hours after the tragedy. Authorities rushed them to the Assaloyeh port hospital for treatment, before sending them to Mumabi via Tehran international airport.

However, both the survivors are worried about the fact that they have lost many of their important documents including education qualification certificates in the sunken ship.

13 people including seven Indian divers, who had stuck underwater, when the ill-fated ship, carrying 73 people sank about 20 km off the oil rich nation's southern Assaloyeh port, on October 20, have lost their lives. The tragedy occurred when the ship was advancing towards the port from an offshore oil rig near Tehran.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed states, which have not enrolled with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana (PMKSY), saying that such petty politics has done great damage to the farming community.

"I expect that in the new year, those states which are not associated with the Kisan Samman Yojana will at least become a part of it this year," the Prime Minister said at a function in Tumakuru where he disbursed Rs 12,000 crore to six crore beneficiaries under the government scheme in one-go.

Also, he gave away the Krishi Karman Award to the selected farmers and distributed fishing equipment to the chosen ones on the occasion. Modi said political considerations by the state governments in implementing the PMKSY has caused severe loss to the poor farmers.

"Such politics has never strengthened the farmers. Our government understood your (farmers') needs, requirements and your aspirations and accordingly tried to implement the schemes," said Modi.

He further said his government never saw agriculture in fragments but in its totality. Claiming his government has ensured that the entire money reached the poor beneficiaries, Prime Minister hit out at the previous governments, when middlemen ruled the roost.

"There was a time when a rupee was rolled out (by the government) for the poor person, only 15 paise would reach him. The middlemen would pocket the remaining 85 paise. "Today, whatever money is dispatched from Delhi, the entire amount directly reaches the bank account of the beneficiary," he said.

He told the gathering about the various initiatives taken by his government to improve the agriculture sector such as completing the pending irrigation schemes, soil health card and 100 per cent neem-coating in urea.

Due to the initiatives of the government, agriculture production has gone up, he said. Speaking about measures in the fisheries sector, the Prime Minister said the sector has been promoted in the villages, financial help given to fishermen, modernisation of boats and building fisheries-related infrastructure have been done.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 7: Making a scathing attack on the Central government, Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Issac on Friday said the BJP-led NDA government was "strangulating" the southern state by denying funds.

Presenting the 2020-21 budget of the Pinarayi Vijayan led-LDF government, he alleged the centre has been "helping" corporates rather that the common man.

"The Centre has been strangulating Kerala by denying funds for the state and has been moving on a self-destructive path by corporate-friendly policies and privatisation. The GST implementation has not been beneficial for the state," he said.

"The government proposes 2.5 lakh water connections in the upcoming financial year. We will also construct one lakh houses under Life Mission," the finance minister said.

The budget has allocated Rs 90 crore for Pravasi Welfare Fund and the government proposes power projects with a capacity of 500 MW.

"The government proposes Kochi development plan with a fund of Rs 6,000 crore. The city will get an unified travel card and Metro project will be extended," Issac said.

The state government has increased all welfare pension funds by Rs 100, allotted Rs 40 crore to paddy farmers and Rs 10 crore for startups in the state.

The local self-governments have been allotted Rs five crore for waste management, Rs 20 crore has been set apart for 1,000 food stalls under hunger-free Kerala, where meals will be made available at Rs 25.
