Shobha skips yatra in Mangalore too

Mangalore, November 1: Pro-Yeddyurappa leaders in the BJP failed to take part in the public meeting addressed by party veteran L K Advani, as part of his 'Jan Chetana Yatra' in the city and in Udupi on Monday too.

Supporters of the beleaguered former chief minister had skipped the Bangalore meeting of the saffron stalwart on Sunday.

Yeddyurappa loyalist and Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje did not attend the meetings, even though she hails from Dakshina Kannada district. Though the district BJP leaders had claimed that Karandlaje would be attending, she failed to turn up.

V?S?Acharya, Higher Education and Udupi district incharge Minister, did not attend the public meeting in Mangalore, as the 'Jan Chetana Yatra' passed through Udupi also, said sources in the BJP.

Mangaluru, Jan 1: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Tuesday that the State government will think about making policy on giving compensation to the families of those who have died in police firing.

Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that the government withholding compensation to the families of two persons who died in police firing in the city on December 19 after a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act turned violent and even in 2006 when two persons had died in police firing at Mulky in Dakshina Kannada the then State government had not given any compensation to their families.

In the latest case, the First Information Report (FIR) has named the two persons who had died in the firing as the accused. After the incident, there were demands to provide compensation to the families of the victims.

Bengaluru, Apr 28:  Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today launched a Helpline service for Kannadigas residing outside Karnataka.

On April 24, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary in a letter to the Chief Minister requested a helpline for stranded Kannadigas in Mumbai, other States and other countries.

The helpline will help resolve the problem of stranded Kannadigas across the country. After a request is made, local authorities of the caller will be contacted to provide the required help. The helpline will be operated from Bengaluru and staffed with 50 employees in three shifts.

Bengaluru,  Aug 1: As many as 5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Saturday, taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 1,29,287.

The active cases in the state now stand at 73,219 while 53,648 people have been discharged.

"5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,29,287 including 53,648 discharges and 2,412 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 73,219," said State Health Department.

So far, a total of 2,412 people have died in the state.

India, on Saturday, reported 57,117 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 16,95,988, said the Union Health Ministry.
