GIO holds seminar on 'role of young women in building a better society'

Mangalore, November, 2: Girls Islamic Organization of Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada district unit organised a seminar on “the role of young women in building a better society” on Tuesday at Don Bosco Hall in City.

Although women have made a foray into every field, they face discrimination everywhere. It is the responsibility of the society to encouraging women to help women lead an independent life, said Usha M, teacher of B. M. High School, Ullal.

Women have a huge role in improving the society considering she plays multiple roles both inside and outside the family, she said.

Violence against women is still rampant in the society. Even as the level of education has improved, there is degradation in the moral values. It is the responsibility of every mother to teach her children moral values, she stated.

Farah Banu, lecturer at Vidyodaya College, Venur, called upon women to make use of all available opportunities to be successful in life. “Awareness and rational education will help in bringing down violence against women. The young women should inculcate values of obedience rather than aping the West, she said

Presiding over the event GIO State Secretary, Ruksana Umar, said women should be taught human values along with secular education.

Kamarunnisa GIO district convenor was present. Jabina recited the verses from Holy Quran. Umer Banu delivered introductory speech while Ashur Biwi N compered the programme.

Bantwal, Jan 11: Seven people were booked for organising protest without taking permission or intimation, police said on Saturday.

The alleged accused were identified as Nandavar Juma Masjid President Basheer, Khateeb of the Masjid Abdul Majeed Darimi, Gram Panchayath President Mohammed Shareef Nandavar, former President of Masjid Majeed, Arif Nandavar, Mustafa and Abubaker.

They have been booked for allegedly organising protest outside Nandavar Juma Masjid on Jan 10 afternoon without intimation to police or obtaining permission.

Bengaluru, Jul 20: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Higher Education S Suresh Kumar today said that the results of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examinations, held amidst Corona threat, will be announced in the first week of August.

Speaking to newsmen on Monday after visiting the evaluation centres in the City, said that the work is in full swing and it was proposed to announce the results by end of first week next month.

He said that the evaluation of the answer sheets are set to take another 10-12 days. Currently, evaluations of the answer sheets are taking place at 220 centres in the State.
