Yakshagana Kalakshethra Gudinabali chosen for Vishwesha Theertha award

Udupi, November 2: Yakshagana Kalakshethra, Gundibail, Udupi, which has been serving the art of Yakshagana for over sixty years has been selected for the Vishwesha Theertha Award, instituted by Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi. The award also includes a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

President of Yakshagana Kalaranga Tallur Shivarama Shetty released the list of 13 more personalities chosen for its other annual awards.

Dr BB Shetty Award: Putturu Sridhara Bhandary, Nitturu Sundara Shetty - Mahesh D Shetty Award: Babu Kulthadka, Bajal, Prof BV Acharya Award: Kodi Krishna (Kushta) Ganiga, B Jagajjivandas Shetty Award: Anand Shetty Majjigebailu, Bhagavatha Naranappa Uppura Award: Krishna Yaji Idagunji, Dashavathari Marvi Ramakrishna Hebbara- Bhagavatha Vadiraja Hebbara Award: Avarse Sheena Madivala, Kota Vaikunta Award: Pundarikaksha Upadhyaya Udupi, Kadiyali Subraya Upadhyaya Award: Halladache Venkataramiah, Moodigere, Airodi Rama Ganiga award: Jamadagni Sheena Naik, Jannadi, Padaru Narasimha Shastry award: Tenkabailu Thirumaleshwara Shastry, Smt and Sri HR Kedlaya award: Bajpe Deranna, Smt and Sri U Vishwanath Shenoy award to Janardana Jogi Manjeshwara. S Gopalakrishna, treasurer of Yakshagana Kalaranga has been chosen for the Yakshachetana award.

Pejawar Mutt pontiff Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji will present the awards at a function organised at Rajangana of Srikrishna Temple, Udupi on Nov 13, from 3 pm. Paryaya Shiroor Mutt pontiff Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji will grace the occassion and President of G Shankar Family Trust G Shankar will preside over the function. Managing Trustee of Bharathiya Vikasa Trust KM Udupa will deliver the memorial lecture.

Kalaranga secretary Murali Kadekar, Vice President SV Bhat, joint secretary Narayana Hegde were also present at the press conference.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Film producer, philanthropist and entrepreneur V K Mohan committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel in the city on Monday, police said.

Mohan, who hailed from Kundapur Taluk, Udupi District, was a famous film producer and hotelier.

According to police, Mohan arrived at the hotel on Sunday night and when he did not open the door of his room on Monday, hotel staffs, grew suspicious and peeped through the room window, found him hanging.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: Former Chief Minister and the Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah appealed the state government not to discriminate the poor on political lines while distributing relief package to the COVID-19 affected people in the state.

He was speaking to newsmen after attending a grocery kits distribution programme, organised in Jayanagar Assembly constituency, which was represented by the Congress MLA and former minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Charging that there are complaints about the state government in discriminating the Congress MLAs represented constituencies in providing relief kits to distribute among the poorer sections in the society, he said that “there should not be no room for politics, while fighting the COVID-19 disease”.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Police have arrested a person on charges of spreading malicious comments against the Karnataka government staff engaged in the prevention of the novel coronavirus in the district.

City Police Commissioner Harsha on Tuesday tweeted, “One Nizam has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on court orders for spreading malicious content on social media through a platform idunammadhwani.. regarding various government functionaries engaged in anti-COVID-19 work and spreading rumours.”
