Mangalore, November 4: Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Muthalik urged the Chikmagalur district administration to make arrangement for the paduka darshana of Datta at Datta peeta during Datta Mala Abhiyana, which will be held from Novermber 8 to 13.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, he said that the preparations are on for the Datta Mala Abhiyana throughout the state. “I have written to the Chikmagalur Deputy Commissioner seeking permission for the Paduke darshana. However, I did not get any reply from the authorities so far. About 5,000 devotees along with 25 sages will take part in the Datta Mala Abhiyana. The Shobhayathra of the Abhiyana will be held on November 13,” he said.

In view of Bakrid, many have started illegal transportation of cows for slaughtering on the day of Bakrid. Hence, the police and the State government should initiate action against the illegal transportors and should not give scope for the slaughtering of the cows, he demanded.

Muthalik said that Sri Rama Sene has no connection with the attack on St Alphonsa Church at Kankanady on Thursday night.

State convenor Prasad Attavar said the attack on the church was an attempt to tarnish the image of Sri Rama Sene.

“The Sene was not involved in any attack on the church or masjid. The police should probe into the attack on church in Mangalore,” he said.

To a query on Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti members resorting to pelting of stones and observing black day to mark Kannada Rajyotsava, he said being in Karnataka, such reactions and retaliations are wrong.

To another query on plebiscite at Kashmir, Muthalik said that Kashmir is an integral part of India. One inch of the land from Kashmir will not be given away to others. If any government goes ahead with according autonomous status and pelbiscite issue, then Sri Rama Sene will raise its voice against any such move.

Though the press conference was scheduled to be held at Maya International in Balmatta, the venue was shifted to Pathumudi Soudha and later to a house.

As the police had asked the organisers not to hold the press meet by Muthalik in Mangalore, the venue was shifted, said State convenor Prasad Attavar. However, the police too took part in the press meet in civil dress.

As Muthalik had not spoken anything controversial or on the church attack, the police did not arrest him.

Bengaluru, Mar 21: Appealing for support to the Prime Minister's call for observing 'Janata Curfew' on Sunday to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has asked people not to come on roads immediately after the end of curfew time as it can nullify the measure.

Noting that people have extended both moral and societal support to this unique curfew, he said "Now, my appeal to people on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji is, don't come on roads and out of your dwellings immediately after nine in the night when curfew time ends. Remain settled in your houses and bungalows avoiding all public appearances on roads and other public places."

"Your coming out in open can nullify the 14-hour measure to contain the spread of virus. As a co-operation to authorities and the society, please remain indoors and stay with your near and dear ones," he said in a release.

Calling for "resolve and restraint" to fight the virus, the Prime Minister during his address to the nation on Thursday had asked the entire country to observe 'Janata curfew' on Sunday.

Calling for a 'Janata curfew' on March 22 from 7 am-9 pm, Modi had said no citizen, barring those in essential services, should get out of their house, and asserted that it will be a litmus test to show how much India is ready to take on the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic.

Stating the Karnataka government has so far been dealing successfully in containing the Covid-19 virus, Yediyurappa said this has happened because of people's co- operation.

He also asked people not to forget to involve in a bout of applause as a mark of appreciation to people involved in containing the spread of the virus and treating those affected by it.

Three new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka on Saturday, taking the total number of infections to 18 in the state.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: Gyms in Bengaluru carried out sanitation work on Thursday following the Centre's nod to reopen gyms from August 5, after several weeks of COVID-induced lockdowns.

"We are taking all the precautionary measures prescribed by the government and will follow the guidelines very strictly. A thermal scanner, oximeter and hand sanitizers have been placed at the entrance of the gym.

We request all other gym owners also to follow the guidelines strictly to keep their members safe and healthy," said Prasad Kumar, a gym owner in Bangalore.

He added, "The last few months have been very difficult for us gym owners and fitness instructors. We are very grateful to the government for allowing us to re-open.

We are going to be very cautious when we open. Even before this COVID-19 pandemic, we used to sanitise all the equipment before and after every use so hopefully, this won't be too difficult for us. We are getting rid of the air conditioners to allow cross ventilation and open the space a little more."

According to Chandu Gowda, an actor and frequenter of the gym, working out at home was not the same as working out in the gym with the proper equipment.

"I'm very glad that I get to come back and work out as I used to before this lockdown. For an actor, working out is extremely important, not just for my physical health but also mental health.

Doing exercises at home is never as good as exercising in a space dedicated to one purpose. I hope other members of the gym follow the rules and regulations religiously," Gowda said.
