Mangalore, November 10: In a new development, a Mangalore based consumer court has issued summons to former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in connection with a private complaint filed against him by a local farmer for not paying funds under Yashaswini Health Scheme.

In its Wednesday's summons, Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum at Mangalore, directed Mr Yeddyurappa either to present himself before it or give explanation through a lawyer on December 5.

Apart from Mr Yeddyurappa, the Forum also issued summons to Minister for Cooperation Laxman Sangappa Savadi.

The development comes following a complaint lodged by Lokesh Poojary, a farmer from Bondantila Boregudde on the outskirts of the city, and a member of Gurpur Agricultural Co-operative Bank.

Mr Poojary's wife and new born baby had undergone treatment at city based KMC Hospital in the month of February, this year. The hospital bill had surpassed Rs 59,000. Mr Poojary, being a member of Yashaswini Scheme, was entitled to get the all the hospital expenditure from the government.

However, when he approached the Gurpur Agricultural Co-operative Bank, the officers denied the payment saying that Yashaswnisi Scheme does not come under its jurisdiction, said Mr Poojary's lawyer K S N Rajesh.

Perturbed by the Bank's denial Mr Poojary had filed a litigation in the Forum. In its reply to the Forum, the Bank on June 28 had stated that compensation to the beneficiaries of Yashaswni Scheme is the responsibility of the Yashaswini Co-operative Farmers Healthcare Trust. It also named seven responsible persons including the administrative trustee of the Scheme Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Savadi.

After going through the Bank's reply, the Forum's Chairperson Asha Shetty on Thursday issued summons to both former CM and minister seeking explanations.
