Mangalore, November 15: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar has said that the people of Karnataka should know the greatness of Kanakadasa, a social reformer who stood against evil practices and tried to change the outlook of people.

Inaugurating 'Kanakadasara Jayanthi' celebration at Town Hall in Mangalore on Monday, Krishna J Palemar said that every caste has its own traditions and practices but people should decide to respect only those traditions and practices which can be considered healthy.

Speaking about the way State Government has shown its respect to this great reformer, Palemar said that Government has been providing Rs 50,000 per district to celebrate Kanaka Jayanthi because the Government realises the need to keep Kanakadasa alive in the hearts of the people.

“The BJP government has released about Rs Ten crore for Kaginele Kanakapeeth to promote the principles laid down by Kanakadasa”, Palemar added.

Kateel Sri Durga Parameshwari First Grade College Lecturer Balakrishna Shetty spoke about the life and principles of Kanakadasa.

“Kanakadasa sacrificed his life for the sake of the society. Some fundamentalists hurt him and criticised his principles but Kanakadasa's values are still relevant,” he said.

Karavali Kurubara Sangha submitted a memorandum to District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar during the occasion demanding naming a circle or a road after Kanakadasa in the city. The cultural procession organised before the stage programme attracted lot of spectators.

Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, MLA U T Khader, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dayanand, Karavali Kurubara Sangha President K E Prakash and other dignitaries were present at the occasion.

Puttur, Jan 8: NCC Officer and two NCC Cadets of St Philomena College Puttur have been selected to participate in prestigious Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2020 in New Delhi.

NCC Officer, Lt. Johnson David Sequeira, Assistant Professor of Bachelor of Social Work has been selected as Contingent Officer of Karnataka and Goa Directorate to train the cadets in New Delhi.

Senior Under Officer Chethan P of first year BCA has been selected to Flag Area and Prime Minister’s Rally.

Junior Under Officer Mahalasa Pai of first year BCom has been selected to participate in cultural event which will be presented on the occasion of VIP’s visit.

These two meritorious cadets of the NCC wing of the College underwent a four months’ rigorous training at various places of Karnataka.

The Correspondent of the College Rev. Fr Alfred J Pinto, Principal Prof. Leo Noronha and Campus Director Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro expressed their happiness and compliments for the tremendous achievement of the NCC Officer and the cadets.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday said rumours that the state government has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false.

He clarified that the government has asked employers to explore the option of work from home amid the coronavirus scare.

"The rumours that the Govt has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false. We have asked employers to explore options of work from home for their employees. Let us be vigilant about this issue and not fall prey to any such rumours," Ashwathnarayan tweeted.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has cancelled all seminars, workshops or conferences in the premises in the wake of coronavirus spread.

"All the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgent and necessary compliance," officials from the hospital said.

Bengaluru, Mar 20: Two COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka have fully recovered and will be discharged today.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said: "Two COVID-19 positive patients have completely recovered and will be discharged tomorrow. They will be kept under home quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure."

The number of COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka stands at 14 as of today.

"The total number of positive cases of COVID19 in India stands at 173, including 25 foreigners. Four deaths (1 each) have occurred in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a statement.

According to official data provided by the Ministry of Health, as many as 15 people infected with the virus have been discharged after receiving treatment.
