DKSSP gears up for 17th district Kannada literary convention

Mangalore, November 14: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahithya Parishath (DKSSP) will be organising the 17th district Kannada literary convention on November 18 and 19 at Alike Shree Sathya Sai Vidya grounds, at Alike village in Bantwal taluk.

Formally announcing this at a press meet here on Monday, DKSSP president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said, the expected crowd for the function is around 5000 people. The convention is being organised at a cost of nearly Rs 3,00,000.

He said that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda would inaugurate the convention. Thalthaje Vasantha Kumar has been chosen to chair the Sammelan. Devananda Swamiji and Shashikanth Swamiji will bless the occasion.

The venue, which is located between the Karnataka and Kerala border, would be the ideal location for promoting Kannada literature and its activities, he said.

District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar informed that more than 200 volunteers would overlook the function and would strive to make it a memorable one for all participants.

Adequate transport arrangements have been made to ferry people from Kalladka to the venue. A procession portraying the Kannada literature and its grandness will also be showcased, he said.

During the two-day convention an art exhibition, book exhibition, poet's meet, student-poet's meet, and intellectual seminars will be organised.

Noted personalities from various walks of life like music, literature and film will be felicitated during the convention.

The valedictory ceremony will be graced by Vishwesha Theertha Shreepadangal and Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Dr Veerendra Heggade.

Newsroom, Apr 23: During the ongoing lockdown in India so as to break the chain of Coronavirus infection, Islamic scholars across India are appealing Muslims to stay indoors and observe fasting with steadfastedness in the blessed month of Ramadan.

They have urged the people to offer taraveeh and other Namaz at homes, do iftar at home and enjoy with one's family only.

During Ramadan, social distancing would be of utmost importance in order to contain the disease, they urged. 

Shahi imams of Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid in the city have also appealed to Muslims to offer namaz during the holy month of Ramadan at home and follow lockdown guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Puttur, Jan 8: NCC Officer and two NCC Cadets of St Philomena College Puttur have been selected to participate in prestigious Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2020 in New Delhi.

NCC Officer, Lt. Johnson David Sequeira, Assistant Professor of Bachelor of Social Work has been selected as Contingent Officer of Karnataka and Goa Directorate to train the cadets in New Delhi.

Senior Under Officer Chethan P of first year BCA has been selected to Flag Area and Prime Minister’s Rally.

Junior Under Officer Mahalasa Pai of first year BCom has been selected to participate in cultural event which will be presented on the occasion of VIP’s visit.

These two meritorious cadets of the NCC wing of the College underwent a four months’ rigorous training at various places of Karnataka.

The Correspondent of the College Rev. Fr Alfred J Pinto, Principal Prof. Leo Noronha and Campus Director Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro expressed their happiness and compliments for the tremendous achievement of the NCC Officer and the cadets.

Bengaluru, May 21: Karnataka reported 116 fresh cases of coronavirus on Thursday, taking the state tally to 1578. 

So far, 570 people have been cured and discharged while 41 have succumbed to the virus, informed the state health department.

Out of the 116 cases, 71 have a history of inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Out of the 116 cases, 27 are from Udupi alone, 15 cases are reported from Mandya and 13 are from Hassan. Bengaluru Urban saw seven new cases.
