Senior Cong leaders to participate in 'Padayatra' against bad road

Mangalore, November 18: Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee is expecting a crowd of at least 10,000 people for its scheduled four-day 'Padayatra' from Sampaje to Mani.


KPCC Secretary Ivan D'Souza addressing a press meet on Friday said that a galaxy of senior party leaders would participate in the rally which will commence on November 21. Amongst them are Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M Veerappa Moily, B Janardhana Poojary, Vinayakumar Sorake, B L Shankar, B R Sudarshan, B A Moideen, Manjula Naidu, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Krishna Bhaire Gowda, Tejaswani Gowda, C M Ibrahim, Abhaya Chandra Jain, U T Khader, K Vasanth Bangera and K S M Masood.


Mr D'Soza said around 500 youth would begin the 'Padayatra' along with their leaders. However, thousands of people are expected to join the rally in the course of 80 kilo metre stretch.


He said during the rally there would be four public meetings in which the congress leaders would address the gathering.

As a prelude to the rally youth Congress workers have created public awareness in Puttur, Sullia, Vittla and Panemangalore blocks.


He said cultural programmes too would be held during the rally, and basic necessities like water and ambulance services have been arranged. People will be made aware about the problems related to roads through small meetings at various bylanes throughout the rally.


“Congress workers from Sullia, Kadaba, Sampaje, Puttur, Kavoor Vittla, Belthangady, Ullal and Mudipu blocks will be participating in the rally, which would culminate on November 24 in Mani, where workers from Mangalore South and North, Surathkal, Gurupur, Mulki, Padubidri and Panemangalore will also converge”, he said.


The rally will begin at 9 am every day and will cover a total of 20 kilo meters on a daily basis.

Mr D'Souza said that meetings at block levels have been held to make the rally successful. Youth Congress and Minority wing too have made necessary preparations

New Delhi, Feb 18: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is holding a daylong meeting with 70 columnists from across India on Tuesday in an effort to clear misconceptions about the organisation, sources said.

RSS chief Bhagwat, who last year met representatives of international media organisations posted in India, is expected to deliver a keynote address that will be followed by a free-flowing conversation, they said.

The 70 columnists attending Tuesday's meeting write in different languages.

The meeting, in Chhattarpur in New Delhi, is a closed-door meeting and the proceedings are "strictly confidential", the sources said

Udupi, Mar 6: District Health Officer Sudheer Chandra said that health department had compiled a list of foreigners visiting the Temple town Udupi and ensure that they are not infected with Coronavirus.

Addressing media persons at District Government Hospital in Ajjarkad on Friday, he said the Isolation Unit set up with five beds to treat the new Coronavirus infection includes two beds with Ventilator facility. Isolation wards with three beds were set up in Kundapur and Karkala taluks to treat the affected.

In order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, Committees were formed at District and Taluk level, he added.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Coronavirus surge in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today at 411  with with Udupi tallying 245 fresh cases and DK 166. 

A dozen deaths also reported from the twin districts. While DK reported seven fatalities, Udupi recorded five deaths. 

With this, Dakshina Kannada district's Covid-19 tally increased to 6,881 and the total number of deaths increased to 208. 

While the district has 3,369 active cases as on date, the day also saw 188 people getting discharged from hospitals. As many as 3,304 persons were discharged in the district so far. 

Out of seven deaths reported in Dakshina Kannada on Friday, five were from Mangaluru taluk and one each from Puttur and Belthangady taluks.

Meanwhile, out of 245 new coronavirus cases reported in Udupi on Friday, 175 are asymptomatic and 86 have no specific contact history. With this, the total number of cases in Udupi increased to 5,605, which includes 2,292 active cases. 

Udupi also reported five fatalities including a female victim, taking the district’s death toll to 55. Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said all the five victims were also suffering from various comorbidities. Udupi district has collected Rs 1,43,300 as penalty from people for violating rules related to social distancing and mask till August 6.
