Mangalore, November 20: Congress MLA UT Khader insisted on Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda convening a meeting of legislators in order to plan permanent development works for Dakshina Kannada district.

He told reporters here on Saturday that a proposal which was submitted, seeking funds for undertaking developing of roads, was pending with the Chief Minister. Gowda who hails from this district has passed instructions to officials on submitting a comprehensive developing package for the district, but has made no efforts to convene a meeting of elected representatives from the district.

Highlighting a mismatch in the grants released and actual cost involved undertaking road repairs, he said that government released only Rs. 30,000 per Kilometre for the road maintained by the PWD. The extent of deterioration of road is such that, it requires a minimum investment of Rs.5 lakh per kilometre.

Without money, the roads are unlikely to be restored to their original shape, he said. Khader also pointed out that the BJP had no moral right to utter a word against former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegede. Sadananda Gowda is only trying to appease former prime minister H D Deve Gowda by criticising Justice Hegde, he added.

He also described the move to transfer Gaonkar from Lokayukta as one among the many appeasing strategies. He wondered why the government was not initiating any action against those, who reportedly issued death threats to Gaonkar. He also challenged the CM to initiate action against his own Ministers who attacked Justice Hegde.

Responding to the BJP's criticism against Congress' padayatra planned against the bad stretch from Mani to Sampaje, he said it is a decision of the Congress and BJP must respect the decision. Congress spokesperson T K Sudhir was also present.

New Delhi, Feb 13: Two SpiceJet pilots have been suspended today for an improper landing at Mangalore Airport which damaged three runway edge lights. The incident took place on October 31 last year when the private carrier's Boeing 737 aircraft was returning from Dubai.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the licenses of the pilots for four-and-half months from the date of the incident.

DGCA had issued a show cause notice to the Pilot in Command and the First Officer demanding explanation of the "lapses" and found their replies unsatisfactory, the aviation watchdog said in a statement.

Investigation revealed that the touchdown was improper as it deviated to the the left on the runway in turn damaging three runway edge lights.
