Mangalore, November 21: Union Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily urged the Devadiga community to grow combining their identity with that of the nation.

“Harmonise your identity with your nations' identity,” he said after relaunching Devadiga community website 'www.devadiga.com' in the city on Sunday.

He said that there are two factors that the community should keep in mind. “You should have an identity as a community but that alone is not enough, it is a drop in the ocean...have an identity in India, that has a future”, he said.

The community should search for its 'place in the sky', he said.

“Good opportunities are there only for some people is a myth,” he said. “We have to strike through education, hard work, and agitation and break the forts and get a fighting spirit,” he said. The community should strike through the "forts" around with a fighting spirit, "capacity building" and win, he said.

Mr Moily said that Devadiga Community has demonstrated its capacity and courage to build nation, despite being a small community.

He also said reformation of mindset alone can take a community towards success and this success is not only a material achievement but an achievement of stability of mind and far sightedness.

Speaking to the youth, he said, "For youngsters the future is bright... you are the youngest nation in the world in 20 years' time, grab the opportunity....Build your energies for taking opportunities created the world over.”

“There is plenty of vacancy at the level of excellence. He said, "Do not be islands of excellence, be an ocean of excellence," he said.

He said that the community members have demonstrated that they can be successful as shown by the website. The Internet has great power and it can be used to get exposure and for capacity building.

District In-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said Devadigas are the disciplined community.

Malathi Moily, former VC of Kuvempu University Dr. BS Sherigar, eminent Neuro Surgeon Dr. KV Devadiga, Principal of SDM College of Management Dr. Devaraj K were present on the occasion.

Bengaluru, June 22: BJP leader and Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan has urged the Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai to drop cases against the saffron activists who had involved in attacks against cattle traders and transporters across the state.

In a letter addressed to the CM and the Home Minister, the MLA expressed his concern against the illegal transportation and slaughtering of cattle. Cow is considered to be holy in Hinduism. Butchering of cattle has been hurting the religious sentiments of people, he stated.

Ranjan stated that cases had been registered against 'Gau Rakshaks' or cow vigilantes who had fought against the illegal transportation of cattle.

“Filing cases against the protectors of cattle is condemnable. If the cases are not dropped, then there will be none to question the illegal cattle transporters,” he said adding that cases registered against various police stations against cow vigilantes must be dropped.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Former chief ministers of Karnataka Siddaramaiah and H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he embarked on a two-day visit to the state attend events in Tumakuru and Bengaluru. In a series of tweets, the Congress and the JD(S) leaders took a dig at Modi for his alleged failure on various fronts.

"You did not visit Karnataka when it was devastated by floods, you did not visit Karnataka when our farmers cried for help, but all of a sudden, when you want to launch your political propaganda, you remember the innocent people of Karnataka. Wah Modi Wah!!" Siddaramaiah tweeted.

In another tweet, the Congress leader claimed Karnataka is starved of Central government funds as there were no adequate flood relief, no GST revenue loss compensation and there was a delay in the transfer of grant-in-aid.

He further said, "Before attempting to fool our people, let the people of Karnataka know when they will get their due share!" He also sought to know from Modi why the 25 MPs from Karnataka have 'turned off' their engines.

"With 25 MPs from BJP and a state government with BJP, people hoped for a double engine. Instead, all BJP representatives have turned off their engines and have become sycophants to play a tune to your idiosyncrasies. Why, are they scared of you?" Siddaramaiah said.

Seeking an explanation on various incomplete projects, the Congress leader said, "Mr Narendra Modi, people are fed up of your lies and double-edged sword comments. We want your answer today about long-standing questions on: Kalasa Banduri Yojana, Belagavi border issue, exams in Kannada, Tulu & Kodava in 8th schedule, the list goes on." Kumaraswamy too minced no words as he went on the offensive against the Centre.

In his tweets quoting newspaper reports, he said Karnataka's coffer has dried up, financial position is in doldrums and the revenue has plummeted.

"What's the reason (behind poor economic situation)? The poor economic policies of the Centre. After swallowing the GDP and development of the country, the wrong policies have affected the state too," alleged Kumaraswamy.

Quoting reports, Kumaraswamy said the Centre has denied the state's share of revenue.

"About 5.44 per cent of state's share is yet to come from the Centre. This is step-motherly attitude of the Centre towards the state," Kumaraswamy tweeted.
